How is it that readers can post comments and not be counted in the statistics?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This is a good thing-This means the link to a one of your posts is being passed around. They can go directly to your post, therefore, not being counted in your statistics.

@ryeder
This page > Settings > Discussion
Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.
We can also override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any post or page.href=”http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/”>here. If you are not clear on what pingbacks or trackbacks are then please read the support information at the links I have provided.
Presumably those who submit comments read posts before commenting. Those page views are recorded as WordPress.com stats are page view stats. You can read all about what’s included and what’s not included in stats here.
Over 80% of all comments submitted to the .wordpress.com domain are spam generated by both robotic programs and by human beings who are paid to create phony comments. As you are a new blogger Trackback and Pingback Spam: What to do? may be helpful.
Welcome to WordPress.com and best wishes with your blog. :)
