Comments Actually Are Advertisements for their site?

    Lately I have noticed people are sending me flowery comments about my blog, but when I look at their website addresses, they are actually giving out advertisements for their own websites and have nothing in common with my blog.

    My blog is for writers and readers who need inspirational comments. But I have been getting comments from discount coupon sites, food advertisers, drug companies, etc.

    So now I’m getting suspicious and wonder if this isn’t just a way of people trying to advertise on my blog? They say they like reading my posts and then they post their own un-related information.

    I know that wordpress puts ads on my blogs after I post. Not thrilled, but I accept them. But having strangers with unrelated comments and wanting me to approve their comments makes me wonder what their real motives are.

    Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

    Those are classic spammers. Just mark the comment as Spam and Akismet will learn and eventually block them.
