Comments always show "awaiting modration" but never get published

I recently subscribed to a blog that I attach great importance to and can’t seem to post ANY comments at all, although I subscribed to it and receive instant notification to new blog posts and comments.
Any comments I write under my WordPress account, no matter the content and length show “awaiting moderation” but NEVER actually get published.
I have looked into it with Akismet and they seems to think there is no issue with my posts.
I then looked at my profile and discovered that NONE of my comments published for the past several years using WordPress even appear anywhere, it’s as if every comment I posted for the past few years using WordPress simply vanished!!!
Looking deeper, it seems that the problem, which I previously attributed to simply bad websites actually comes to my using WordPress to log in for commenting!!!
Another thing that may be relevant – Although I have a WordPress username and password for years, I had to actually register on this forum UNDER THE SAME USERNAME to post this comment, as if it had no idea I existed, and the weird thing is, my avatar posting here is completely different from the one that appears when I try to post comments on blogs!
I have been looking into this for several days, using several browsers and plug-in/add-on combinations even a fully clean install of browsers and get the exact same result: comments just don’t get posted at all.
As a long time computer user with programming experience, I am baffled at what could be causing this. It’s as if my username/email was simply blacklisted globally by WordPress… That I am at the same registered and not registered or some other such deep data collision…
HELP!!!

Thank you for your encouragement – The funny thing is, I just noticed my OLD avatar is now showing up besides this comment and it says I’m registered since 2011… What gives?!
If you look at this test site: http://omgwtflolbbq.com/2015/07/01/1-july-2015-1210/#comments I was redirected to for testing when I was troubleshooting these things with Akismet, you will notice the avatar is completely different!
Ha! I just noticed what could be the source of the avatar problem – WordPress. C O M is apparently a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SITE than WordPress. O R G! So when I logged into the .org site I had to register as if it never knew me ;-)
It still doesn’t explain why I can’t post a comment to a blog using a WordPress.COM login and why the test site comments shows up as a WordPress.ORG login… When I look up under profile of the login with the weird avatar, I only see my old original WordPress login…

Both the avatar you see here in the WordPress.com forums and the avatar you see on the site at http://omgwtflolbbq.com/2015/07/01/1-july-2015-1210/#comments are default avatars, which are used when you haven’t set your own Gravatar image at Gravatar.com. (Blog owners can choose a different default avatar style, like the monster avatars being used as the default images at the link you mentioned.)
You can head to http://en.gravatar.com/ to set your own Gravatar image for your WordPress.com username yeoldfaithful, so the same image always appears instead of a default avatar.

But I LIKE the so-called ‘default avatar’ that shows here, it is the avatar that I’ve had for years! There is nothing I hate more than using those picture avatars, I’m not a used car salesman!!!
Anyway, I’m going to make a screen grab of this avatar and make it my own. Hopefully this will help, although I haven’t figured out how to upload it from my computer, can’t understand why it insists on sending me to the gravatar site.
As for my comments not showing up – Akismet says it’s not coming from their side. But I see no way of fixing this from the blog owner’s side of things, there is not option on the blog concerning troubleshooting. Maybe I need to simply unfollow the blog and create a new WordPress username from scratch. It did take me several days to get the confirmation to follow the blog as it ended up in my spam folder, maybe that is the problem. But I eventually found it and confirmed and have been receiving email notifications since, so it should not be an issue anymore. Or could it?
But honestly, this whole thing has become simply too aggravating for me to figure out – and I’m not ignorant when it comes to computers, been using them since before the PC revolution and the Internet – it’s sad, because such issues impede freedom of Speech and could significantly hinder the Public Discourse… And I’d hate to have to create yet another account just to be able to participate in online public debates that respects the fundamental Democratic Principle of Anonymity that is the only guarantee any citizen has against persecution (we all know what happens to whistleblowers in this day and age). But let’s not get into that, it is a highly charged political subject as it is.

Hi Chris,
Once you leave a comment on a blog, as long as Akismet isn’t accidentally marking you as spam, it’s up to the blog owner to approve and publish your comments — they have full control over whether those pending comments are published. I’d recommend contact the blog owners directly about the comments you left on their site to find out more about what happened after you left those comments.

I definitely will, although I’m reluctant in this case because he is such a public figure with certainly very, very little time for looking into this kind of stuff – After all we’re talking about Yanis Varoufakis himself ;-)
In any case I’m glad my comments here are published and seen by others as well, thank you for your untiring help :-)

Well I can’t find any way to contact the blogger, there are no such options on the contact form. And I see new posts with highly offensive remarks by some other posters that post immediately while mine still says “awaiting moderation” (check http://yanisvaroufakis.eu/2015/08/01/death-by-debt-my-response-to-the-german-finance-ministry-by-jeffrey-sachs/). I just can’t figure out what should trigger this behaviour. Perhaps having a nickname is doing it? I would find it highly offensive if that was the case…

I’m sorry about the trouble with your posts. Is that happening in the post editor at http://wordpress.com/post ? If you can describe the exact steps leading up to that problem, I can investigate that for you.

It’s entirely up to the blog owner to decide when or whether to approve pending comments. There’s no problem with your comments on the technical side — they just haven’t been approved yet.

Do you have third-party cookies enabled in your browser? Those cookies are what log you in (and keep you logged on) to things like Facebook and WordPress.com when you are visiting a website with a custom domain name. You can check that on our Third Party Cookies support page, which also has details for enabling them if you need.
If you have those cookies enabled and you’re still running into trouble with this, please let me know!
