Comments and Email address
-
Hi,
I’ve looked through FAQ and forum and don’t see anthing about this… I’m trying to figure out how to protect my “commenters” from having to display their email addresses. I saw one wordpress blog that appears to have that option… where the person puts their email address but it does not post. I’m assuming it’s a setting, but I can’t find it. tia. irmgarde (childrenofheaven.wordpress.com) -
There is no specific setting that displays email addresses. You can see them on comments when you receive them but the readers of your blog cannot see them.

In all wordpress.com blogs, the email address WILL NOT appear on the comment, only their name, and a link to their website, if they provided one. You will be able to see the commenter’s email address in your dashboard under comments, but no one else will.

Hmmm… why then did the person who commented say that she could see her email address on the blog comment… I confess I didn’t verify before I deleted her comment because I assumed she knew what she was talking about. Is the commenter’s view of the comment different than the general public?

If someone leaves a comment, and then comes back to leave another comment, or read another post on your blog, your blog will recognize them from a cookie placed in their browser and display their name and information for them so they don’t have to fill it in again. No one else can see that information but them. If someone else goes to your blog, then will see them blank, or if they have commented they will see their information, but they will not be able to see the information from other commenters.
