Comments and Jetpack
-
Some of my regular commenters can no longer make comments on my site. I have not blocked them or spammed them or anything like that, and they are still following me. this last time they tried to make a comment, they were told that I had deleted them (or blocked them in some way), which I have not done. I thought it might have something to do with the Jetpack Plugin, but I can’t access it from my free wordpress.com site. There is no ‘Jetpack’ link in the Admin section of my Dashboard. I AM connected to Jetpack, it says so and won’t let me do it again. I almost lost a friend because he couldn’t comment, fortunately, he mentioned it, but I fear I have lost other followers and commenters because of this issue without my knowing about it. What is causing this issue, and how can I fix it. I’ve spent hours searching for help, to no avail.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy nomadfornature!
You can manage your comments using these guidelines
Comments Management
To be able to access them you can use the Wp-Admin dashboard to see them in a list.
Just see if they are correctly in place, and enabled correctly you can use this guide Comments Enable and Disable
Hope this helps, let me know how it goes. Would be happy to assist you further..! -
That is not the issue. It’s more in-depth than that. I have comments enabled and for most people they work fine. However, occasionally I’ll get a person who emails me and says they can no longer comment because I’ve deleted them (I’m not sure what they mean by that, but that is the message they are given when they try to sign in to comment). I’ve not deleted or blocked any of my commentors. So this is something technical going on that I have nothing to do with. I suspect Jetpack is the cause. This is causing me to lose friends, because they think I’ve deleted or blocked them and are offended. I don’t know how many people this has happened to, but it’s a problem. I tried to go into Jetpack, but the Jetpack button is missing on my Admin Page, so there is no way I can access the Jetpack controls to see what is going on. That is one of the things I need help with, even if that isn’t what is causing the problem.

Hi Again!
JetPack is in built Plugin for WordPress.com sites, there is no button place as such, all the features of JetPack are directly available in WordPress.com here is a quote from JetPackJetpack is a feature-rich plugin for self-hosted WordPress sites. If your site is hosted with us at WordPress.com then you already have access to all of Jetpack’s features. However if you’re thinking of moving your site from WordPress.com to WordPress.org, Jetpack will give you access to all the indispensable features available here at WordPress.com.So, coming to the issue, there is no way comments get deleted unless, the Admin or Owner delete them.
To know the issue better can you provide the link to the specific post where the comment was deleted, and what is the username of the person who’d made that comment?
Also, can you have a look into your Trash and check if the comments deleted there in Trash?
Let me know, we can get to better.
Thanks…! -
Thank you for responding…I guess I didn’t make myself clear for which I apologize. I didn’t say a comment was deleted, and I didn’t delete any comments personally, and there is nothing in spam. Comments are turned on.
The person who was trying to place the comment said that he couldn’t make a comment anymore and that HE got a message saying that I had deleted him (or blocked him) in some way and that he could no longer leave comments. This is the second person I am aware of that have had this issue, and I fear there may be more. Since I HAVE NOT, blocked, deleted, or spammed any of my readers, I don’t understand the problem.
Here is the discussion we had on Google+. This problem remains…he cannot leave comments on my WordPress blog, because he has been blocked, or deleted from leaving comments in some manner, and NOT by me.
I don’t understand it, but it’s not anything I’ve done to him.

From My Follower: I just went from here to your blog and when I tried to “Like” and comment on your post & poem I found that you had deleted my account. Sorry for whatever I did to merit that action. Certainly no offense was intended. Take care.
Me: Huh!!! Not done any such thing. I will look into it.
Regarding the (supposed) deleted account. You said you were on my blog (not Google) and it wouldn’t let you give me a like. I don’t do anything with the people who have signed up for my blog. I’m not even sure how to get to my subscribers list. Can you sign up again, and try another like. I’m wondering if it’s just a network glitch or something.
Me: I just checked my WordPress account, and you are still listed under subscribers. There should be no problem. Strange…
From my reader: I don’t think it is a ‘supposed’ deleted account. Whoever deleted it apparently deleted it. BTW yes, I am referring to your blog on WordPress.
Me:I didn’t give you the boot at all, I welcome your comments they are always kind and thoughtful. I think this is a ‘glitch’ on the log-in thing, because someone else told me that happened to them as well, and I’ve never blocked, booted, or got rid of any of my followers on my blog. I will investigate further. I think that several people in this day and age have their feelings hurt because of technical glitches. I’m glad you told me, so at least you know you haven’t been booted and are welcome.
Me: I’m trying to figure out what the issue is. There is a Plugin called Jetpack that does security automatically on WordPress and I think it is the problem. Unfortunately, I can’t access the controls. In the meantime, which poem was it you liked? if you want to share your comments here I can re-post it for you on my blog, at least it will be there until I get this figured out. I don’t want to miss out on comments, so I’m working on this -
Hi Again!
Thank you so much for explaining the whole scenario, now just cross check a couple of things in your Dashboard in the Comments section that is Settings–>Discussions , just cross check these two featuresUsers must be registered and logged in to comment Automatically close comments on articles older than daysJust make sure these are not enabled.
Now about “Likes” for anyone to like your Post, they have to a WordPress.com user, if can have the Rating system.
Look into this support document Likes
So, if the user is not a WordPress.com user he won’t be able to like. Now you continued in your conversation with your Follower, just request him to send the link to the particular Poem/Post so we can take a closer look and see what can be done best.
Hope to hear soon, would be happy to assist you further.
