Comments and moderation
-
I read some threads on this but didn’t find the exact answer.
Right now, I want to be sure that any comments that are made are sent to my email (which they do) but do NOT get posted on my site unless I specifically approve this. I will have students and parents using the site and I want to be sure that their concerns or questions are kept confidential unless they otherwise note. Basically, I just want it to be used as a nice and simple email form they can use right there on the page for anyone that may prefer it (although I do have my email posted there).
How do I make sure that the comments do not get posted publically?
Also, when I recieve a comment in my email, does it state which page that comment was made on? Just a curiosity.
Thanks!
Josh

One possibility for you is to create a separate contact form which will not post to your blog, and will be delivered directly to your email address: http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/05/13/how-do-i-make-a-contact-form/ .
To insure all comments go to moderation, go to settings > discussion and select “An administrator must always approve the comment” and then click “save changes at the bottom of the page. I would also look over the other choices to see if there is anything else you would want to change.

Or rather, I mean the “Leave a Reply box” (that’s the same thing as “comments”… right?)
If there is anywhere this is explicitly explained, please lead me there. I don’t want to waste your time.

Ah…. thanks… I will checkout the contact form option. TheSacredPath, you keep busy here!

You’re very welcome. I seemed to have gotten back into the habit of hanging out here too much and need to get back to the things I left behind.

Today I’ve gotten around a hundred spam comments. Is there a way to require captcha or otherwise reduce spam comments…???
-
There isn’t an option for captcha. All WordPress.com blogs run Akismet for spam blocking. As the spammers change their techniques it can take a little while for Akismet to learn. The best thing you can do is keep marking the comments as spam to help out Akismet.
