Comments applied to wrong blog

  • Unknown's avatar

Half the comments on my blog are going to a previous blog, rather than the current one.
How could that happen, and can it be fixed?
And can I move the comments to the blog they’re about?

    Best wishes
    Paul

    Hi Paul,

That is very strange! Can you please provide me screenshots of this occurring? Please upload the images to your Media > Library page.

Also, can you provide me the links to the comments on your previous blog?

    Thank you!

    Hi Grace,
I think I may have confused you. There is only one Blog; I should have used the word ‘posts’.
The problem is that if you click on the link to the December 18 post you will see that there are comments intended for the January 29 post (Daddy, was your childhood in black and white?) and for the February 5 post (My first Top 10 Record. Who knew?
Taking screen shots won’t help, because the posts are more than a screen long, so you won’t know which screen shot belongs with which post.
But it should be easy enough to navigate around – I’ve only posted three editions. You can clearly see by the dates on the comments and the subject matter that they weren’t intended for the December 18 post.
    Hope that’s helpful.
    Thanks.
    Paul

    Hi Paul,

I don’t see any issues in that the Comments in your Dashboard are matching up with the posts. I’ve checked all three posts and it seems like the commenters are posting their comments on the posts they’ve written on.

Has a commenter told you that a comment they made on one post ended up being published on another post? Please let me know if they do. The only reason I’m hesitant to look at content of the comment is that it may be commenter error.

As in terms of a bug on our end, I haven’t seen any reports of this happening yet. I’ll keep an eye out for that and keep you updated.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

    Hi Grace,
If you look at the ‘Car 67, Where Are You?’ post from December 18, you will see comments from:
Steve (Codsall) posted on January 29, MichaelJClare, John Howard, Dave Van MusicMaster and George Gretton
All five of these are in response to the January 29 post.
The final comment under the December 18 post, dated February 5, is from Martin Sacree, and is clearly about the February 5 post.
Is there some way for me to move these comments to the posts they were responding to?
And is there some explanation why, when they comment on a specific post after reading it, the comments end up under the wrong post?
    Best wishes
    Paul

    Hi Paul,

There wouldn’t be a way to move the comments to another post. Honestly, I have never seen this problem before, so this would be a first for me. I’ve checked with other colleagues and they have never seen this occurring in a blog that wasn’t imported. As a test, I have made three comments and they are currently showing up in the correct posts, so I’m unable to reproduce this issue.

The only explanation I can think of is user error and unfortunately that would be difficult to figure out. What I can see being a bit confusing is that the “Leave a Comment” is at the very bottom of the post, so when readers view a post they may be pressing the wrong comment link as seen in this screenshot:

Therefore, if the reader wanted to make a comment on “Daddy, was your childhood in black and white?” and were to press the Leave a Comment link at the top, they would actually end up posting a comment on the wrong post.

The only other possibility I see may be when you are replying to comments (there have been no bug reports of this so far). When you reply are you replying via email or the Reader?
