Comments are enabled in settings, but it's not showing on posts

The ability to comment on posts is not there, although they are turned on in settings.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It only seems to be your latest post? I see an open comment box on your previous post from November 29th.

Check to see if the Discussion Module in your December 6th post has both boxes checked to allow commenting and to allow pingbacks. See here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/

    Hi Jennifer,

The problem seems to have reappeared. Today I had two comments posted on my latest post, both of which I approved. When I logged back into the blog later in the day the comments were gone….. both boxes are checked, as per the above.

    Thanks

Are you talking about the post on Salzburg from December 28th? I see that the comment box is open on that Post.

So a different problem of comments that you’ve approved but have disappeared, yes? Do you see them if you go to your WP Admin Dashboard>Comments or in the Comment module (not the Discussion Module) in the Post Editor? Do you see a number in the comment bubble for the Post in the WP Admin Dashboard>Posts>All Posts?

I do see three “likes” on that Post, but those are not comments, per se and you cannot “approve” them.

Yes, on the Salzburg post, there were 2 comments, which I approved and I see them in the WP admin – I tried to “reapprove them” by clicking on the link in my email, but got a message that said I already approved the comments, yet the comments are not showing up on the post any longer. They were showing for about 1 day, then just dropped off, and I didn’t change any settings.

I apologize for sounding repetitious but I would like you to confirm these please.

Do you locate the comments here?

    Do you locate them here?
    Comments approved

On this post http://foodistravel.com/2014/12/28/salzburg-snapshots/ have you checked both of these?

    Hi there,

I only see a single comment relating to this post, but it was actually for one of the images in your Salzburg post. So it is showing up on that image page rather than on the post page. You can see it right here:

Does that make sense? Was there any other comment which you’re not finding online? If so, could you provide me think link from within your Comments interface? You can do so by clicking on the History link for any comment and then grabbing the URL in the location bar of your browser.

    Thanks!

So, one mystery solved then. When commenting is enabled on your entire site, it is also possible to leave a comment on an image Attachment page or in the Photo Carousel. Those comments show up in your comment count, but not in the actual Post itself, only on the image.

If you’d rather not allow comments on those pages (Attachment or in the Carousel), the easiest way is to turn off commenting on your entire site, but then you’d have to remember to enable commenting for each post in that Discussion Module we talked about earlier. If you forget, you can go back and turn it on even after you’ve published your post.

The other way to disallow commenting on Attachment pages or in the Carousel is a bit more cumbersome, which is to turn off commenting for each image. You can do this by editing each image in the Media Library to disallow commenting. It’s basically the same Discussion Module as in Posts/Pages.

Regardless, if you choose to do either method, remember to save your changes.
