Comments broken
-
Good afternoon,
I am encountering an issue where the option to leave a comment only exists on half of my posts. Within the block editor, I always check ‘Enable Comments,’ but comments only begin to appear on my blog pages starting with my article What is Rtveli (https://brokenbootstravel.com/what-is-rtveli-celebrating-georgias-wine-harvest-festival/) and onwards. I cannot figure out how to fix the issue but do not want to have repost my old posts for because the articles already have backlinks. I use Jetpack for comments, can anyone assist me?

Hi,
Within the block editor, I always check ‘Enable Comments,’
If you want every new post to have comments enabled, then this may be accomplished with one setting. See the “In Settings” subsection of the Enable or Disable Comments section of the Comments support page for instructions.

Was there a time when you didn’t enable them on each new post? Either way, because the global setting evidently was disabled at some poinst, the only way to correct this now is to enable comments individually on each of the previously published posts where they aren’t presently enabled. For those who might not know how to do this, see the On a Post or Page subsection of the Enable or Disable Comments section of the Comments support page.

Hi musicdoc1,
Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately the global setting is turned on… “Enable Comments” is automatically checked on all of my posts, but comments sections only appear from the Rtveli article onwards. I’ve tried unchecking the box, updating the page, then re-checking the box, updating the page, and still nothing seems to fix the problem. Do I need to reset my comments site-wide?
Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately the global setting is turned on…
Yes, I understand, but what you’ve described suggests that it was turned off at some point, and then turned on before the “What is Rtveli” post was published. If that’s not the case, then let us know.
Do I need to reset my comments site-wide?
I don’t think this will help. If “Allow people to post comments on new articles” at Discussion Settings was always enabled, then every post should have had comments enabled. However, if it was disabled for a period, either at the outset or later, then posts published while it was disabled would not have comments automatically enabled. I believe disabling and enabling the setting now will only affect future posts, but I’ll call for staff attention to see if they have any insights or suggestions to offers.

Hello there,
Are you able to provide a link to a post where comments aren’t showing, but activated on both the global settings and on the post individually.
Also, to note this site is not hosted with WordPress.com, so our support is limited in this instance, but we’ll do our best to point you in the right direction.
