comments by registered users – why do they have to log in?

  We only want registered users of our site to be able to comment. However we don’t want to have to log in to leave a comment. The reason is that logging in takes you to the dashboard and that is intimidating to some. Can you help please?

  Created a registered users membership log-in only to comment blog can be done on WordPress.ORG software. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  why do they have to log in?

  That would be so the software knows they are not hackers.
