comments closed on wordpress's blog post

    I was just notified yesterday about WordPress’s updated privacy policy. When I opened the blog post explaining it, I saw that other people commented but now comments are closed. Myself & other people who weren’t told earlier are unable to ask questions or make suggestions on that post. Is there another way to get comments to the WordPress people about privacy and data collection?

    Thanks for responding.

    While I do appreciate WordPress’s efforts to increase transparency regarding how member data is collected and used, at the same time, I’m wondering if an equal effort could be expended to studying the possibility of collecting less data. In an age when identity theft has become rampant, notably from organizations thought to be at low risk for such theft, I think some people would feel more comfortable about WordPress collecting data if they knew very little of it was being accessed.

    I want to stress that I’m not accusing WordPress of being lax or having any ill intent. However, when high-profile firms like Experian and several national banks, I think a lot of people, including me and my friends, would feel much more comfortable using online services if we knew those services were collecting less data in the first place.

    I realize WordPress is not a financial institution or other typical target of cyber thieves, but I also know that my friends and I have cut back on our online use across the board because of so many cases of cyber theft where firms have said they were surprised by a data breach because they thought they’d done enough to prevent it. If there’s less data to steal, a data breach does less damage.
