“Comments” Confusion…
-
MUCH “Comments” confusion. I’m way no techie, most WP things too complicated, to me, I’ve spent several hours reading SEARCH results, but still clueless. Either I know even less than I think I know, something is broken, something has changed, I need to send to “FEEDBACK” or whole thing is beyond me. Would appreciate Any help/explanation. A few different issues.
1. Yesterday I happened to see a Comment, listed on my home page, even though Dashboard
“Comments” said the usual “0”. Click on “Comments” got a surprise: found comments, some old, waiting to be posted.
a.) Why weren’t they counted –number shown, on the Dashboard –ever?
b.) Why didn’t any of the comments show on home page?2. How do I enable comments?
Under each comment: several choices (–links/what to do with it) but none say “enable” –or any variation, so how do I post comments?3. When I began at WP, apparently, I mistakenly posted. something labeled “jpeg” –not a written content post. –Shouldn’t be up. It is not listed in “Manage” page and can’t even be found in “SEARCH” of my blog. I only found out it’s there because: a recent (waiting) comment is linked to it, I suspect mistakenly.
a.) What to do?
b.) How do I delete that bad post?
c.) What will happen to the comment if/when I’m able to delete the bad post?
d.) Should I write to the author of the comment? Say what?4. Only one comment has a “Not Spam” button (–ironically: it’s the one attached to the bad post).
a.) If I click that button: what will happen? Will the comment appear –somewhere? –Where?
b.) Why don’t the other comments have that button?4. Comment from yesterday morning: I happened to see it listed on my log-in “Home” page, clicked it, and replied. Then: Both of our comments appeared, in appropriate place (–all for first time). Many hours later: e-mail about it arrived –that I had a comment, with several links, etc. but: none of the links enable the comment to be posted.
a.) e-mail: did not have a button/link/way to enable the comment. Why not?
b.) How to enable a comment from an e-mail?
c.) Why did e-mail arrive several hours after comment appeared on Home page?
d.) Why no e-mail for any other comments? (I regularly check the “bulk” file for real/non-spam e-mail.)5. Spam comments: number of spam rose yesterday, but for the first time none of it was visible. Could it have deleted genuine comments? How can I find out?
If it matters:
a.) I’m on IE 6.0 –customized
b.) I wrote a post Saturday that got a lot of traffic (for me), so is it possible that some recent comments are linked to months-old posts mistakenly?I know this is confusing. Any help/direction appreciated (write slowly please!). (I need to go lie down now, lol….)

I don’t list my blog address in the Forum. It’s on: wordpress.com
if that’s what you’re asking. -
Yes, that’s what i meant. Thanks.
1. I don’t have any numbers for comments on my dashboard, just a link to Comments; do you actually see something that says “Comments: 0”?
2. When you say “enable comments”, do you mean “approve comments”? If so, there should be a link that says “approve”. If the comment is already approved, the link will say “unapprove”.
3. Someone posted not too long ago about image files (jpeg) getting spam comments attached to them. Determine if the comment is legitimate first. If not, delete it. If so, send a feedback to staff telling them you have a comment that isn’t attached to a post.
4. The spam comment has a “not spam” button because it has been tagged by the system as spam. Is it spam? If not, click “not spam”, and it will appear attached to the post it belongs to.
5. There are numerous posts in the forum about spam comments getting deleted by Akismet (the spam catcher) with no way of checking their legitimacy. Please do a forum search for “Akismet”.
I hope this helps you somewhat. Without seeing the comments and posts you’re talking about it’s a little more difficult to know how to help.

Thank you for reply. lol (sigh), this is a mess.
-I understand the “not spam” button/purpose.
“not spam” button appears for ONLY one of the waiting/non-spam comments. But if I click on it, I suspect the comment will land on a bad/wrong page. –A page that doesn’t belong up, didn’t even know existed until the waiting comment appeared, attached to it; no one would comment on it. (This is so dumb! complicated, sorry.)
a.) I want to delete the bad page. How?
b.) How to get his comment where it belongs? Should I write to him? If so: what to say –to communicate well? (It’s a bit long & nice comment; I do not want him to be offended/just delete it.)What happened to the “edit” button on Forum posts?

Do respond to a spam comment. I really don’t think you have a “bad page”. Is it really a legitimate comment? I find it hard to believe that a legit comment would get attached to a page not accessible by the general public. If it is legit, then you need to send a feedback to staff, because something is wrong that only they can fix.
Again, it’s difficult to know exactly what you’re talking about with this “bad page” if you don’t let any of us see it.
Finally, you can’t edit your forum post once another post has come after it in the thread.

>”difficult to know exactly what you’re talking about with this “bad page” if you don’t let any of us see it.”
I’d say you’re doing very well! I de-listed my address, for the Forum, for several reasons, (among them: the b i t a c l e dot c o m mess, last summer); I’m not trying to be difficult or coy. Here are the specifics:
-Page (which shouldn’t even be up, didn’t know it was; don’t know how to delete): doesn’t have any written content, only a link –to a picture (I had originally wanted to save; I don’t even know how: to get the picture to remain open).
No logical reason whatsoever that the commenter would land on that very old page. –Heck, I didn’t know how to find it. So: it’s a mystery.
davineremedy dot wordpress dot com/?attachment_id=25-Comment (nice one; not spam), arrived 4 days ago: is listed under the “Spam” page, not on the “Comments” page with the other (waiting) comments
~With “edit” button I could have fixed the item numbers, above; instead: more confusion. I get that one can’t edit after a reply But: No “edit” button appears at all, after posting (– it used to), I don’t see it; also don’t see: date, time of OP –in any thread. I think both things should be restored. No?

Do respond to a spam comment.
Ack! I swear i put a “not” in that statement.
It sounds like you need staff help with this. Send a feedback request and point them to this thread for more info.

It should all be there. I can see it on my browser – try clearing your cache, etc.
