Comments Counter
-
Looks like I am having a hard time here since I started moderating comments on my blog.Even after approving the comments, the number of comments on the post remains 0(zero).I understand now why they don’t show on “recent comments” widget on the sidebar because someone told me earlier today that they are cached and may take long time to appear. What I don’t understand is why should does it show comments 0 but when I click I can see the three or more comments I have approved are there? Can someone help me please? My blog’s url is http://bongocelebrity.com. The first post that appears is a case at hand.
-
That’s odd. I do see 4 comments and the notatation that there are none. Why not use the Support tab in the upper right of your dashboard to send in the information. Be sure to include everything you can think of — url, browser, etc — you can’t ever provide too much information.
Support is open 8a-4p Pacific time.

Nope, forget the force-reloading, there is something fishy. Some say you have 6 comments when you have 9. Sounds like a job for staff.
-
Thanks guys,I am going to try to write to support. Its late right now but hopeful they will help me out by tommorow.
Thesacredpath, yes I have tried clearing my browser cache and everything else I could think of.Still not getting any better.
-
Just a little update;Timethief,if you are reading this, you have a test message on my blog http://bongocelebrity.com.All over sudden the comments number started is now reading correctly.Just for that post though because in all other posts,my comment counter doesn’t seem to work. What do you think is happening?Anymore suggestions?
-
I’m glad to hear you got my comment. I did this for another blogger and as soon as she approved my comment her blog rectified. I left more comments to see what will happen. I suggest you wait to see what happens in case it all clears up. If it doesn’t then you will need staff intervention as volunteers do not have backend access to blogs.
-
Somehow it has rectified. Thanks a lot for that. However, more comments have come in,for instance on “Ni nani huyu”? post and it still shows 12 while there are now 13.But I am gonna wait a bit as you suggested to see what happens. What do you think could be blocking the counter?
NB: In case you are wondering what language am I mainly blogging from;it is Swahili.
-
I don’t think that language is the issue. I do think that you should keep a very close watch on your Akismet spam filter in case a valid comment gets in there. If so be sure to un-spam it. Counters are frequently slow. The data is cached. There are multiple servers and it takes some time for rectification to occur. Having said that though I do not know if this is a factor in your case or not.
-
Lets see what will happen in couple of hours. On another note, sometimes today, there was one comment which was always being caught by my akismet. It was indeed a spam. However,I would delete it and delete it because it kept coming back.Could that be the reason for this mess?
-
Do not “delete” spam. Mark it as “spam” so Akismet learns. Deleting it means Akismet learns nothing so you keep getting it back. It takes time for Akismet to learn you may have to mark items as spam several time before this takes place.
Never mark a comment you do not wish to post on your blog because you disagree with it as spam. Doing so will confuse Akismet just delete it instead.
-
No I do not believe that this problem you have had has anything to do with the deletions you refer to above. :)
-
Thanks T,let us wait and see.Otherwise I will contact support tomorrow.Has been a hectic day.I will rest now.

-
We confirm we have seen this problem and are investigating the issue, (and have been for a little while unfortunately — it has beaten a few members of the team, but they battle on)
-
Thanks foolswisdom,
I hope you will find the answer soon. This issue is frustrating us at http://bongocelebrity.com as well as our loyal readers and contributors. They are already writing quite too many e-mails now asking what is going on. -
@bongocelebrity
Perhaps placing a small post telling everyone there’s a problem that staff are having difficulty tracking and fixing would cut down on the email deluge you are experiencing. If you think this is a good idea then maybe placing it in a text widget at the top of your sidebar would be better than making it into a post.
HTH :) -
@timethief,
Thanks for the advice,I have taken a couple of measures to calm them down a bit for now.I am hoping the problem will be resolved before this weekend.Otherwise I will have to put a text widget as you suggested. Thanks timethief. -
You’re welcome and thank you for being patient and gracious. I hope along with you that you will witness a happy ending very soon. :)
-
Gosh, when will this problem end?Is anyone else experiencing the same problem I am with the comments counter as highlighted above?
