Hi Nick,
In Settings -> Discussion under Default article settings, the option “Allow people to post comments on new articles” is currently unchecked. If you check that option, then click Save Changes, all future published articles will allow comments again.
As for previously published posts and pages, if you’d like to enable comments for multiple/all of those, you can use Bulk Edit to change the Comments drop down to “Allow”.
Let me know if you have any other questions

My apologies for the confusion, Nick. It’s my fault for not being clear.
You would find Settings -> Discussion in your blog dashboard.
You can get to the dashboard of your blog from the main menu (top right) in the WordPress.com admin bar by hovering your cursor over your name until your blogs appear (denoted by the Site Titles). Alternatively, you can go to the My Blogs tab on the WordPress.com home page to see your blog dashboard links.
For your convenience, here’s the direct URL:

I hope this helps!

Thanks, Bryan – I have now checked ‘Allow people to post comments on new articles ‘ — but just now attempted to leave a message and the message box still is not opening up.
Will try again.
thanks for direct URL – at least I have followed your clear instructions.

ok – comments can now be made – perhaps I’ll regret it!
Thanks again, Bryan, for making it easy. I’m just a content provider!
