Readers are unable to comment on my blog. I have troubleshooted the settings and it looks like people should be able to comment.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Comments have been disabled. All WordPress blogs by default have comments open on all Pages and Posts. You can enable and disable comments on free hosted WordPress.com blogs on this page > Settings > Discussion
Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/You can override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page.

You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules

From my settings and those pages, it looks like commenting is enabled. However, people are still unable to post comments on my blog. I want to enable comments. How do I do this?

It appears to me that you disabled comments and now have to use what I posted to enable them again.

I did all that. I think it is more of a problem where I am unable to click in the text box to bring up the cursor so I can type a comment. I tried it in chrome and internet explorer and am having the same problem
-
Will you please tell us:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com?
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/ ? -
I have a samsung laptop
I am using chrome 34
I have received feedback from followers that they are unable to comment. -
There’s no doubt about being unable to comment. The comments are closed and every blog here has all comments open by default. As I said above it appears to me that you disabled comments and now have to use what I posted to enable them again. I’ll tag this thread for Staff intervention. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting as they have a considerable backlog

Ok thanks so much for your help! I’m not sure how the comments got disabled and can’t figure out how to re-enable them. I’m sure that I have checked the box to allow comments on my blog.
-
There isn’t a just single box to check and I believe I made that clear when I first posted above. I’m all in and all done on this, but not to worry as Staff will eventually assist you when they work their way forward to this thread.

On the Settings->Discussion page, copy exactly what it says there and paste it here and tell us what is ticked and what is not.

You appear to have some unclosed/overlapping divs in one of your text widgets which is throwing off the page layout and might be causing the comment problem, since the comment box is there but is being displayed below the footer.
Could you try temporarily dragging the text widget containing your “grab a button” codes to your Inactive widgets area just to see if that solves the comments issue? Let me know how it goes. If it works we can then debug the code in that one widget and add it back to the sidebar.
-
It worked! thanks so much.
I can put the “grab a button” section on another page instead of putting it back in the side bar. Would that be alright or would it mess up commenting again?
What about the code messed up my commenting? -
I’m also curious as to why it just started interfering with commenting recently, when it has been on my page for months.

What about the code messed up my commenting? It may still cause problems on another page – better to fix the code itself. :-)
The problem is that you have some unclosed or overlapping <div> tags in the widget. You need to make sure each
<div>tag is closed with a</div>so that there are no unclosed tags, and make sure none of the<div>tags are overlapped and wreak havoc with the rest of your HTML. To debug this I recommend removing all div tags from your widget code and adding them back one pair at a time.I’m also curious as to why it just started interfering with commenting recently, when it has been on my page for months.
That’s a good question that I don’t have the answer to. :-)

Thank you! I will make sure to go through and fix those “<div>” tags before publishing the buttons again.
