Comments, etc not downloading

  Lately my notifications about comments, likes and new followers have been downloading very slowly, and today they won’t download at all. There’s an orange dot on the bell icon, but when I click on it a blank drop down window opens up and then … absolutely nothing happens. This is VERY frustrating, especially as my blog is small – I don’t get a lot of traffic, so I know it’s not because I’m overloading the system! But I do enjoy the interactions I receive.
