comments from previous approved user still need moderation

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi.

On a blog I help manage, under discussion/comments definitions, we have both of the following options enabled:
    – Comment must be manually approved
    – Comment author must have a previously approved comment

I would expect the following behaviour:
    1. user who never commented, gets his comment on the moderation queue
    2. user who has previous approved comments, to get his new comment published directly

Number 1 is working correctly, but number 2 does not seem to happen.
A few users have left several comments, which me or the owner have approved, but their new comments always end up in the moderation queue, to be approved.

I’ve searched and read several threads on this forum, but didn’t find any useful answer.
Also, the fact that the forum is flat structured (not divided by subject or funcionality) makes it harder to navigate and find older discussions.

    Thank you
    Sergio

  • Hi there,

Are these users commenting via WordPress.com accounts, or just entering an email address?

If they’re commenting via email only, if they’re commenting from a different IP address than they’d used before your site would treat them as a new commenter, because that IP would not have been logged as a commenter on your site before.

If they’re commenting as WordPress.com usernames then it might be something else – the next time a comment from a previous commenter lands in your moderation queue, don’t approve it, but let us know here and we can take a look.
