Comments in CSS edits

It seems that whenever I edit the CSS in my wordpress.com blog– I have the Custom CSS option– any comments I add using ” /*— ” and ” —/ ” are stripped out when I click “Save Stylesheet.” I’m starting to get the hang of changing the appearance of my site and I’m looking for a way to manage my changes. I’d like to be able to use comments to track my changes and to maintain my CSS edits in a separate file outside of WordPress so I can easily go back to my prior version. But if I can’t comment my changes as I go, it seems that this will be difficult. Am I missing something obvious here? Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sorry… I mistyped regarding how I am attempting to add comments. I *am* using ” —*/” to close me comment. (In my original post above, I did not show the ” * ” on the closing tag.

Yes, wordpress.COM optimizes CSS files and strips out all comments, and even takes out all blank spaces and blank lines and if you look at the actual file, it is basically only two, three or 4 lines with everything one right after the other horizontally.
