Comments in Illustratr Theme
-
Hellos!
I’d love for folks to be able to make comments on my posts. While it’s crystal clear that folks can leave a reply on the ‘Archives’ page (http://thelightningnotes.com/archives-2/), there’s nowhere to leave a reply on any of my posts.
I’d love to have that same ‘Leave a Reply’ option on all of my posts. How can I do that?
The site I need help with is thelightningnotes.com
Thanks much!

Regardless of the theme, all WordPress blogs have comments open on all pages and all posts by default. WordPress.COM comment boxes expand automatically to accommodate the text submitted.
Unless you use P2, a twitter-like theme comments are collapsed on the front page of the blog. The way the comments function is coded into the core of WordPress. By clicking the post title or the comments link the posts on the front page open on their own page where all comments display.
In a new blog one does not have many posts or comments. In an established blog if the comments did not collapse on the front page it would become a mile long in no time flat and page loading time is a page ranking factor. We have only seconds before visitors refuse to wait and click out.
If you are concerned readers will not find the comments section you can use a text widget to tell them how to do that and place it at the top of your sidebar. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/
You can enable and disable comments on posts on WordPress.com blogs on this page > Settings > Discussion
Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.

You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules

Oh no! I did it again! I’m so tired that I did not notice that this thread is in the CSS Forum and I do not help with CSS editing. I humbly apologize. Please be patient while waiting for another Volunteer or Staff to help you.

Hi Catie, it looks like you at some point turned off the option for folks to comment on your posts.
I’d suggest you use the Bulk Edit tool to open up comments again on all your posts. Go into your WP Admin dashboard’s Posts area here:
https://thelightningnotes.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php
Check the box next to the word Title at the top left.
Select Edit from the Bulk Edit menu, then click Apply.
Choose Allow from the Comments area, then click the Update button.
That should do the trick.
New posts should have comments open by default, since you’ve already selected “Allow people to post comments on new articles” under Settings > Discussion.
Let me know if you have any trouble!

You’re welcome, glad that did the trick!
Timethief – in the end it wasn’t a CSS issue, so there ya go. ;-)
