Comments isn’t showing up on website

I need help on this website I designed where no comments posts showed up even though I got an email of the comments for the Guestbook page for dlwedding2018.wordpress.com. I worry that if guests go to comment on other pages like the Our Wedding page along with the Gallery and Contact pages that it won’t show up there either. If you can get back to me asap, that’ll be great as the website was designed for the free version for my friend and her fiancee whose wedding is coming up in October and they along with guests need to be able to see the comments, but I really don’t need the comments to be sent to my email telling me that someone commented. I look forward to hearing back from you asap. Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There is a difference between a contact form which is just sent to an email address and comments that may also be sent to an email address but are designed to display on the website itself.

Thanks, but the thing is that the contact form is the one I need vs. the other one because somehow the other one requires guests to log in for WordPress to make a comment and they aren’t members. I even tested it out myself both as a guest and even after logging in as a WordPress member and either way whether I use the contact form or the other one, none of the comments will show up. When I use the non-contact form it prompts me as a guest to log in. So I have no idea what that’s about. The contact form is one that works best because it gives me the option to control what section for info guests need to provide prior to commenting.

I don’t want to mess up your site by leaving a comment on it but I can’t see anything stopping me even if I’m logged out of WordPress.com. Have you got your discussion settings with “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” unticked? As you have a deadline to get the site working to your satisfaction I have added the modlook tag to ask a member of staff if they could help you.

Yes, thanks that would be great if a member of staff can help me out.

  • Hi there,

I even tested it out myself both as a guest and even after logging in as a WordPress member and either way whether I use the contact form or the other one, none of the comments will show up.

Contact form submissions for the forms you currently have added to all your pages will never show on your site. Period. There’s no way to make them show, because that is not how the contact form is designed to work. The contact form exists as a way for site visitors to contact you privately, not as a way to submit comments, and contact form submissions will only appear in your site’s admin area at https://dlwedding2018.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=feedback

When I use the non-contact form it prompts me as a guest to log in.

Where exactly are you seeing this “non-contact form”? I don’t see comments enabled anywhere on your site.

Your comment settings are currently set so anyone can comment, provided they provide a valid email address. In other words, there is no requirement for your site that someone needs to be logged in to comment. But no one will be able to comment unless you enable comments on your individual posts and pages.

To enable comments on individual pages, go to My Site ->Pages and edit a page. Look for More Options in the settings panel, and check the box to allow comments.

I also see you have your site configured so all comments must go to moderation, so even when someone comments, their comment will not appear on the site unless you approve the comment first.

If you don’t want all comments to be held for moderation, you can change that at My Site ->Settings ->Discussion.

Okay, thanks. I am gonna switch over to the enable comments section.

However, is there a way the ads can be moved to below the comments section after I enable it or better yet the ads to be removed completely for the free version?

We show ads on free WordPress.com sites to help us cover the cost of hosting your site. The ad placement for sites cannot be changed, however, if you’d like to remove ads from your site you may upgrade your site by choosing the plan which is right for you at https://wordpress.com/plans

Thanks anyways. I also switched to the enable comments instead of the contact form. Hopefully it works for guests. Thanks again for all your help. Have a blessed day!

  • You bet, @ferventvine. You had also mentioned you didn’t want the comments to end up on other pages besides the guestbook. If you’d like, you can disable comments on other pages and leave them only on the guestbook page. It’s up to you.

I don’t think I did, definitely know that the person I made the website for wants comments on other pages as well, so I will leave as is. Thanks again.

  • Okay. I was looking at this comment:

If you’re happy with it as is, that’s great. Take care!
