Comments issue
-
I am getting a message whenever I try to read comments on a particular blog. The message reads :Could not retrieve comments for requested post wordpress. I have mentioned it to the blogs writer who tells me that nobody else has reported the problem and cannot understand what the problem can be. Only happens with one particular blog. Can anyone help?
-
Forgot to mention that this only happens when using the WordPress reader and occurs on my Laptop, my iPad and my Android phone.
-
Hello,
Can you please mention the blog URL on which you are facing this issue reading comments?
Thanks,
-
The blog url is: https://www.sillyoldsod.com. If I visit the blog from outside of my WordPress site instead of using the WP reader, then there is no problem. This is the url from within the WP reader: https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/40602518.
Thankyou for your quick response

Hello,
Thanks for sharing details.
Are you using any external plugins related to post comments? If yes, can you try disabling them and check if that works?
Also can you ensure Jetpack comments are turned on in your site, then re-connect Jetpack?
https://jetpack.com/support/comments/Let me know if the issue still persists.

Hello
I’m on a Personal Plan, so do not have access to any plugins. My site is a WordPress.com site and I understand Jetpack available or needed.
Thankyou
-
Thanks for the details.
I tried to look for suggestions to such issue and found this one.
Can you please check if Jetpack’s JSON API module is disabled on your site? This can prevent our system from fetching comments from your site.
Please follow these steps to get to the Jetpack module list in your site’s WP-Admin dashboard, and activate that module.
https://jetpack.com/support/control-jetpacks-modules-on-one-page/
If this doesn’t work I will need to pass this query to the Reader team.
Thanks for holding this with us.

Hello @pranaliwp. I do not have any access to the Jetpack Dashboard, even with the instructions you supplied. The plugin page shows that Jetpack is installed but clicking on the icon just takes me to a description page.
Hello @justjennifer. That may be the reason.
-
Hello again, I just wanted to establish that this isn’t your own site you are having issues with in the Reader.
It’s entirely possible to subscribe and read self-hosted WordPress sites in the WordPressdotcom Reader and the Jetpack plugin Subscribe module makes that possible on self-hosted sites.
Let’s ping Staff about the issue on viewing comments on sillyoldsod.com in the Reader. I’ve added the MODLOOK tag for their attention. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

Hello @justjennifer. I’ve been looking back through the comments I have made on posts. The pop-up message that I get when I open the post, only seems to have appeared since the last update. I’m now wondering if I have ever read other peoples comments on sillyoldsod.com.

Hi folks –
tonyhuby, is this happening with the WordPress app on those devices or with the browser? Please let me know if the same message appears when trying a different browser.
-
Hi staff-zinnia. It happens with the app on my iPad, my Android phone, and my laptop. It also happens using Opera, Edge and IE11 on my laptop and also when using the Safari browser on my iPad. I have tried the same on two other laptops, one using Chrome and one using Firefox. Hope that helps.

Okay, I think we see the issue. That blog has our API module turned off, and that’s stopping us from allowing comments through. Could you have them get in touch if they’d like to fix this?
-
Or, rather, we need the site to be a Jetpack site, working with the Jetpack API, to be able to bring comments into our feed reader. I hope this helps.
-
This sounds like a result. I shall inform the site owner of your findings and let them fix the issue.
Many thanks for your help

Thank you, Tony! And thanks to all the rest in this thread who helped sort this out. Cheers!
-
Well that wasn’t the result. The site is a Jetpack site and the api was turned on. But recently the issue has gone. The site owner has done nothing at their end, so this still remains a mystery.
