Comments, likes and metadata are displayed with the wrong posts.

Comments, likes and metadata are associated with the wrong posts. This causes comments from people to be posted on the wrong post. When viewing posts, I can see that the comments, likes and other metadata (i.e. tags) displayed are for a completely different post. Please help!

  • Hi there,

Can you give me a link to a post on your site where the comments are showing up incorrectly? If the comments are associated with the wrong post, can you send me a link to the post that they *should* be apperaing on, for reference?

    Thanks for the additional info!

    Hi Jerry,

Which comments are appearing incorrectly seems to change. They are not showing up in the wrong place consistently. So it’s hard to provide an example. I have observed the following behaviour:

    1. Visit the post on which comments are incorrect.
    2. Visit the post whose comments are incorrectly appearing on the post in step 1.
    3. Refresh the post from step 1 and the issue seems to be fixed.

I also noticed if I go into the Dashboard and ‘Update’ the affected post without making any changes, this also seems to temporarily fix the problem. However a few minutes later they may be incorrect again, without me having done anything at all.

I can give you an example of one which I know was incorrect earlier today. One of my followers – i*Kan – posted a comment on this page:

    http://flightscamerasatisfaction.com/2014/01/09/post-processing-in-lightroom-loch-leven-sunset/

And it actually ended up on this page:

    http://flightscamerasatisfaction.com/2013/10/28/weekly-photo-challenge-horizon/

Unfortunately I can’t find any right now with the wrong comments! Next time I spot one I’ll update this thread, but as I said it’s difficult because each time I visit my site they seem to be different. Sometimes they are all correct, and other times the complete opposite! I hope this helps.

Thanks. Yes, it does appear that that comment was meant for the other post. I posted a comment on your Lightroom video post (good job with that!) as a test, but it looks like it is held for moderation in the correct post, and not on the other. How often does this happen, and how widespread is it? Only occasionally, or rather frequently?

Can you tell me what you mean by tags and other metadata? Any links to posts where I would see this? Not sure what you mean by that or where to look exactly.

    Thanks for the additional info!

Thanks! I would say it happens fairly regularly, and not always on the same post. I tend to check the site a few times a day and normally I find at least one post that is incorrect. Sometimes there are 3 or 4 that are wrong, and other times none.

By tags and other metadata I mean everything that appears at the bottom of the post – the likes, the tags and categories that the post has and the comments. For example at the bottom of my lightroom video post this is the correct text:

This entry was posted in Behind The Lens, Photography, Post-Processing and tagged lightroom, loch leven, post-processing, process, scotland, sunset, workflow on January 9, 2014. Edit

When the comments are wrong, this text is associated with the comments being displayed not the post. When this happens, if I click edit it takes me to the post associated with the comments being displayed incorrectly, not the post I am actually looking at.

If I just scroll through my home page now and I can see a few that are incorrect:

How Much Is That Doggie In The Window
    A Krabi Island Paradise
    Weekly Photo Challenge: Unexpected

You don’t need to click through to the posts – if you look at the text provided by WordPress underneath each post describing the tags and categories used as explained above, it’s clear that they are not correct.

    I hope that helps!

  • Thanks for pointing those out. Yes now I can see what you mean regarding the share buttons, the link to edit the post, etc. I am going to have our engineering team take a closer look here, and I will update you when I know more.

    Thanks for your patience. :)
