comments listed on spam to approve

  I had over 800 comments to review and approve under tab marked spam last night
  this morning they are gone. Where did they go?

  I am not sure, but I believe that sometimes WordPress can determine that some spam comments have been sent to multiple users and delete them in bulk.

  Would you happen to remember when these comments were posted?

  Are you using Akismet or another spam-management plugin? It’s possible that the comments were auto-deleted after a certain number of days.

  @mirimary: Akismet is active on all wordpress.com blogs, and we users cannot add plugins.

  Ack! Sorry about that. I keep confusing my WordPress.com and .org blogs. Thank you @justpi for correcting me. :)

  So yourselfhelppro, please go to Settings > Discussion, scroll down near the bottom of the page and make sure that “Don’t discard spam on old posts” is not checked.

  It’s possible that Akismet cleaned your spam moderation queue by default.

  As for trying to get those comments deleted, I’m not sure if that’s possible…

  No they cannot. Fortunately.

  @Josette: Akismet is right 99% of the time, and you should learn to trust it instead of unspamming spam. For example, the 79 comments on this post are ALL spam:
  http://yourselfhelppro.wordpress.com/2013/04/26/next-step-new-start-blanks/
  You should mark them all as spam (same thing in other posts too) or you’ll keep being flooded with bullshit comments like these.

  I think the page that justpi linked is a good example of what not to do! Really any introduction to blogging should say right at the beginning, never approve a comment that does not address anything in the post. General “this is a really good post” comments are almost always spam.
