Comments not saved

  • Unknown's avatar

One of my followers has problems with saving her comments – repeatedly. She just makes a comment and saves it, but it never shows among other comments, and among spam neither. It is quite annoying, to her and for me, because she spends quite some time writing them and it never show anywhere. Where do these lost comments go??? Is it possible to somehow regenerate or something? WHY is this happening?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

If a WordPress.com member is logged into an account, they need only send a comment (odeslat komentář) on a post on your site. My test comment was immediately published on the post A třikrát zaklepej – 6. kapitola.

If the member is not logged in, then your site asks for email address and name, both marked required, and (optionally) a website name or address, “Webová stránka.”

She filled in her e-mail and name, and it didn’t work. She even logged in and it didn’t work. She comments quite reguralry but for some reason sometimes her comments are saved and other times they aren’t. She wrote me on messenger that it often doesn’t save those comments which are quite long.
Thank you for helping, but this isn’t just it. :-/

sometimes her comments are saved and other times they aren’t.

I suspect that the issue is a local one, perhaps a browser issue, but that’s just a guess. I’ve called for staff attention to the topic. Hopefully staff will be able to provide an explanation and suggest a remedy.

  • @miamam it may be easier to troubleshoot this with her directly, particularly if it happens intermittently.

Does it only happen when she posts a particularly long comment? Only when she’s commenting from a certain location? What email address or username is she commenting with? If you’ll type the email here it will be hidden from public view so only staff can see it. And we can use that to look for more information.

Her e-mail is (email visible only to moderators and staff) (nickname Blanch). It happens regardless of her location, and IP address. Do you think it is somehow connected to her e-mail? She writes long comments often, although most of them don’t appear – and she sometimes tries to write similar comment several times. Sometimes it works and her comment is saved, but she told me it is about a one third of the length of the original comment she had tried to save.
Perhaps it’s the length of the comment, then?
But since there is no limit to words in comment, I don’t see why that would happen…

  • And just to clarify, this is happening on johnlockpositive.wordpress.com, correct?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, on this blog – johnlockpositive.wordpress.com. My other ones are private without audience.

  • I do see one spammed comment here… could you change its status to approved?

Were there other comments you had to un-spam, or are they just not showing up at all?

  • Oh dear, I actually see several of her comments here. Please go un-trash them. Then please consider removing the blacklist items here, as they seem to be what’s causing a problem.

I honestly don’t know how they got there!! I did not put them in trash!

Oh God. Thank you SO MUCH for finding those comments, it didn’t even occur to me to look there for them (why would I look there, when the only thing I willingly put in the trash is spam or unintentionally duplicate comments!?).

The few banned words I had set were about explicit content and ads, which usually end in spambox anyway. She doesn’t have any of those words in her e-mail or anywhere, but I deleted them just the same.

Thank you, thank you, thank you ♥. I thought my problem would stay unsolved for ages, but you all tried to help. Great community! ♥♥♥

  • Yeah, I don’t speak the language, but I noticed at least in one case that some of those banned words were in the comment I checked — even if it was just part of another word.

The Akismet filters should take care of any actual spam for you, so you’re welcome to keep those boxes completely clear. If you do decide you want to automatically trash comments with certain words, though, try including spaces in front of and behind the words so they won’t catch any false positives.

I noticed she has several comments still in the trash — if you’d like, you can search the trash for her email address so you can rescue them there. We do “empty” the trash periodically, so you’ll want to do that soon.

    All the best!
