Comments not showing up and comment replies not showing up on latest post.

All of a sudden as of my new post, no one can comment and my own comment won’t show up. Help! bitsandbreadcrumbs.com or bitsandbreadcrumbs.wordpress.com

And then a subsequent post telling people who are telling me they can’t comment…that comments are closed, is commentable. What gives? This appears to be one of my more popular posts in the making and no one can comment.

Did your users give you any other information that you could share? I apologize for the trouble, but I’m not seeing anything strange. Particularly since you were able to see multiple comments on the “Comments, interrupted!” post.

After personal emails and Facebook messages from followers telling me that they received a “comments closed” response to trying to comment to the post, I posted the second “comments interrupted” post to explain. Another blogger suggested copying and pasting my original post into another post to see if comments could be made on that one. Since people were getting so frustrated, I did this, it opened up comments, and I deleted the other post that refused comments so that there might be less confusion for visitors. I don’t know if the original post was corrupted or not. But I had many visitors who couldn’t comment, and don’t know why it was just that one post. I tried to comment via admin and also received a “comments closed” message. That’s all the feedback I have.

I should add that when you could view the original post in question, it simply didn’t have anywhere you could comment. You could “Like” the post, but there was no box to prompt comments or leave a reply, and no text near the tags showing an option to reply. One blogger said she kept going up and down the blog looking to see if she’d missed the box somehow. But it just wasn’t there. It never was there for that one and only post.

So, it is possible to block comments for a given post or page. Though unlikely, it could be that you accidentally clicked the box that would make that happen. Should you want to do that in the future for some reason, here are the instructions:
If you have trouble with comments on a post again, please let me know before you delete the post. It will help in troubleshooting.

Thanks, but the enable/disable under discussion was the first thing I looked for. Everything was exactly as it has been for my previous 170 posts with comments enabled. In fact, I went through the whole dashboard looking for something that maybe I didn’t know about. That’s when I made the comments interrupted post…with all of the exact same settings…and the comments came up for that post. Sorry about deleting the original post in question before you could help. It seemed like the thing to do in that moment when I was in a panic!

Sorry for all these comments, but I went back and checked, and I’d only trashed the original post. I’ve restored it now so you can check it out. It still won’t let you comment. Let me know if you can figure out what’s going on. Thanks!

So, when I went to the edit page for that post, I did not see the “allow comments” box checked. Screenshot:
I checked it and updated the post. Viewing the post now I see the comment box as per normal:
The enable/disable option under Settings–> Discussion in the Dashboard is a global setting to turn on or off comments for all posts/pages. You can also turn off comments for individual pages as well. For example, you might use this for an “About” page where you didn’t feel it was necessary to have comments or for a post discussion that had gotten a little too heated. This is the specific section of the “enable/disable comments” page I linked to earlier that talks about turning them on/off for specific pages/posts:

In any case, it looks like those checkboxes just somehow got unchecked. At the moment, as I haven’t heard any other reports of this happening and your subsequent posts seemed to work fine, I’m inclined to just chalk this up to a glitch or mistaken click somehow. But please, if you see this again, let me know.

I’m the queen novel writer, LOL! Thanks for fixing it. However, believe it or not, I looked at the “allow comments” box you’re referring to on that particular post when I discovered the post had no comments, to see if it was unchecked as I already knew about that feature, and it was checked as was the allow trackbacks.
At that time, I didn’t uncheck it recheck it and then update, nor did I go back and look at it again after that. I’m wondering if trashing it then restoring it allowed the boxes to be “seen” as unchecked. I know that I didn’t uncheck them. One of my followers said she had the same problem once, and suggested cutting and pasting the problem post into a new post as a workaround, so that’s what I did. At any rate, I’ll be on the lookout for any future weirdness and thanks for your help!
