Comments Not Working Through WordPress App but Are Working Through Website
-
Hello,
I’m not sure what I can do about this. Those using the WordPress app aren’t able to comment on my website, but those who comment through my webiste are able to comment. How can I make commenting available through the app? When I edit posts, it says that commenting is open and that anyone can comment.

Hello there,
From what I can see, it is possible to comment on a post via the app – have you got reports from readers who aren’t able to comment?
If yes, what are they seeing exactly?
-
Yes, my readers have said they’re not able to comment through the app, and they’ve had to go to my site. They will type out a message on the app and hit “reply” but an error message comes up on the screen. I’ve had a couple people mention they’ve had this issue on my site for a while. Thanks for the reply and any help!

I do have a screen shot of the error message that comes up through the WordPress app, but I’m not sure how to attach it here. I’m wondering if it’s my theme that could be causing the issue? But I’m not sure how to choose a theme that wouldn’t continue having this issue through the WordPress app in the future…

Hi there,
To share a screenshot of what you are seeing, you can use https://snipboard.io/
Simply upload your screenshot on that web page, and then copy the link (created after you upload your screenshot) and paste it into your reply here so we can see it. Also, is this behavior that you can also replicate by attempting to comment on your own posts/pages? Or just something that readers are reporting?
Thanks for the additional info!

I will have to look into the snipboard… looks like I need an account for this?
I’m able to comment on the WordPress app on my posts and others’ posts.
Other WordPress followers have contacted me saying they have trouble commenting through the app specifically on my posts. The error message pops up when they hit “reply”. It says, “There has been an unexpected error while sending your reply”.
Followers have to open my website in order to comment which many choose not to do because it’s more of a hassle.
I don’t close out comments, and I’ve double checked multiple forums to make sure my comments are “on”.
Thanks again for any help. I’m at a loss at this point!

Could you upload the image to your media library, then share the link here? We just need to be able to see what you’re seeing.
Or, could you just copy the error message and share it here? That’s what we need most.

Thanks for that, that helps a lot!
Based on that screenshot, it looks like people are trying to reply to your posts from the WordPress.com Reader in the WordPress app, is that correct?
If so, it’s not working because there’s a problem with your Jetpack connection that I was able to fix on our end. If your site is not properly connected through Jetpack to your WordPress.com account, the ability to comment on or like posts directly from the Reader won’t work.
Have them try commenting again and it should be working now.
If not, you’ll need to reach out to Jetpack support for help in troubleshooting your connection issue.
Also, it looks like your site loads under both
httpandhttpsprotocols. Since you do have a valid SSL certificate, you should contact Bluehost support to make sure that all traffic loads viahttps– not only is it more secure for your visitors it could also impact your site’s Jetpack connection. You can reach them here:https://www.bluehost.com/contact
I hope that helps!

Thank you for that thorough response! Let me check on that and get back with you on whether it’s working through the app. I also appreciate the https insight. I will contact BlueHost on that.

The comments are still not working through the app. I am now reaching out to Jetpack about the issue. I’m also contacting Bluehost, so maybe that will help and we’ll see.
-
Bluehost wouldn’t be able to help with the commenting thing, but I know the Jetpack team can. It’s not an unusual problem and they’ll be able to get you sorted out. :)

Okay, great. Thanks! Yes. I’ve been in contact with Bluehost and got that fixed, just waiting to hear back from Jetpack and hopefully that will fix the comments.

Jetpack came to the conclusion that it is a theme issue. The problem I’m now having is my e-mail subscribtion option completely disappeared. I went back to the old theme to see if it would come back, but I still can’t figure out what happened to it. It doesn’t give people the option to subscribe by e-mail. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
-
Thank you. I will have to get in touch with them. Everything is enabled, but you can’t see any of those options on the site.

As an update, Jetpack is now saying it isn’t a theme issue. They suggested reaching out to my host site to resolve what they thought my be an API issue. After reaching out to BlueHost (my host site), BlueHost is still saying it’s a Jetpack issue, and it’s not on their end. I’m now going back to Jetpack to see if this issue can be resolved- not sure what’s going on at this point.

Hello there,
After reaching out to BlueHost (my host site), BlueHost is still saying it’s a Jetpack issue
To be fair to you, this is outside of Bluehost’s remit. They’ll only really be concerned with downtime or critical errors.
Going back to Jetpack is the right move here.
