Comments Off?

The last couple of posts I’ve made say Comments Off instead of Leave a Comment at the end. I can’t figure out why that happened or how to change it back. I went to the help pages and found instructions to turn Comments On or Off in the Comments section of the Discussion Settings–but there is no option there to simply turn Comments off or on. I’m worried I might be missing some action.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there – This is an issue we’ve had a few reports of lately, and we’re looking into it but haven’t identified the problem yet.

To fix those specific posts, edit them and then turn them back on in the box labeled “Discussion” which is underneath your post editor. If you don’t see that, check your Screen Options in the top right corner of your window, just under the admin bar, to make sure that box is set to show up.

When you first published these posts where the comments are off, where did you compose and publish them from? In the quick post editor, on a mobile device using the app, or in the traditional post editor window?

    Hey there,

Thanks for this. I’ll look into these things. I’ve been composing and posting exclusively from the traditional post editor window. The only place in the edit window where I’ve seen the “Discussion” box is along the side bar on the left under “Settings.” This one you’re describing is in a different place? I’ll look for it.

Okay, I fixed it. The “Leave A Comment” or “Comments On” has always been a default setting, it appears–now, it looks like I have to turn Comments On for each individual post. Is that right, or a glitch? Anyway, thanks!

  • Hi there – It should be on by default; we’re not sure why this is happening for some users right now. It shouldn’t be, and our developers are looking into it.

By traditional post editor, do you mean this one here:

No, I guess not. Typically, I start and draft a new post from the dashboard Quick Draft.

  • Hi Michael – Thanks very much! I can reproduce that this happens if you use Quick Draft. I have opened a bug report for this issue. In the meantime, you can either write your posts in the Posts->Add New area of the Dashboard, or remember to check the Discussion boxes after saving a draft from Quick Draft.
