“Comments off” against my will
-
After a 4 months break, I posted a new article on my blog yesterday. Doday I looked whether I got a comment, and, astonishingly, I found the writing in gray “Comments off”. On my discussion options page, I still find “Allow people to post comments on the article” checked.
Can you help me quickly? I do want comments to this article! Thank you. -
Edit that post. Look over to the right while on the Write Post page and look at the second blue header bar from the top. It should be labeled Discussion. Click on the + sign and it will drop down and turn to a – sign. Then check the box labeled Allow Comments. Now save the post and should be ok.
If this continues as the default even though you have the other setting turned on you should send in a feedback to staff.

Thank you, ryannjenn. I did it accordingly, and now it is ok.
By the way: on this occasion, I saw the second box under the Discussion header: “Allow pings”, and it was not checked neither. Can this be the reason why I have got so few visitors ever since I have been running this blog?? Anyway, I checked “allow pings” now, and will see what happens. -
Glad it worked. Short answer to your question is no. Allowing pings does not have a direct influence on blog traffic (but allowing it is a good thing if you want exposure). Here is some info on what a ping is:
I will leave it up to the blog traffic experts here in the forum to answer your underlying question of “how do i get more visitors?” You may want to do some searches in the forums as this has been asked a few times before and you can learn from other’s experience. You can start here:

Got that link from the “Answers to the most Frequently Asked Questions here at WP.com” post stuck to the top of the forum.

The turning off allowing pings just makes those trackback reports not show up on your blog.
