Comments on Comments
-
Hi, I’m just wondering how I can add a comment to a comment, perhaps I mean like a threaded comment. I’ve seen comments I’d like to respond specifically to, yet I “can’t” because mine would not necessarily appear directly after the relevant comment. I can do this in LJ, can I do it in WP too?
TIA -
You can edit any comment either from the front of the blog on the post concerned click the dit function on the comment or on the admin panel side.
Dashboard -> Comments
locate the comment and click “edit”. Then you can add your own comment to it in italic or bold lettering. -
Thanks for the quick reply timethief. I did see that I can edit comments, but I didn’t realize that this could be a way to “answer” to the points made in the comment. How would I ensure readers know the response to the comment was from me? Also, would my response get back to the individual who made the original comment if I simply edited their comment?

Hmmm…on a closer re-read, timethief, I see you’ve answered my question about how would people know it was my response to the comment – bold or italics should do it. I guess if the original commenter really wanted an answer, they’d check back, eh?
Thanks, that does it for me!

Editing and using italics or bold for your own appended comments followed by your nickname signature is the best we can do. I’m glad to hear you are going to try it and the issue is resolved.
Happy blogging. :) -
I have another blog running wordpress on my own domain, but I have a different blog on WordPress.com . On my other, independent blog, I have threaded comments: why are these not available on WordPress.com?

WordPress.com (a multi-user blogging platform) and wordpress.org (free standing software) run on different software. We do not have plugins at wordpress.com.

Since I am the owner of my blog and likes to reply to comments – it sort of like creating a conversation with each other. What I usually do is use “edit” my comment by changing also the ‘date or time’ to make it look like I’ve responded to a comment personally. If you like, follow TT’s suggestions.
