Comment 213: August 2 at 5:16 pm is not in the correct order. It is supposed to be a reply to a different comment but instead is listed as a new comment.

Comment 217 and beyond: August 2

How can I fix this? It’s super annoying and has happened several times.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Go to settings > discussion and see what the nesting level is set at. It appears you have it set to 3 levels. If someone tries to go to a 4th level, their comment cannot be put on a 4th level since it is set to 3. Comments on the

Try changing the level to perhaps 5 and see what happens.

From what you listed above, it appears as if the comments are being arranged by ID# instead of actual date. If that is the case, perhaps there is a bug.

If I go all the way up to 10 levels, will this be permanently fixed?

Meaning, if I go to 5 levels and someone tries to go to the 6th level, will this bug continue occurring?

What’s the downside to higher levels? I’ll guess it’s more annoying to read.

For what it’s worth — I moderated the comments for awhile and this never happened. It’s only been annoying/buggy since I changed the settings for comments to post automatically.

Once someone reaches the highest level set, the “reply” link on that level of comments does not show. If you go to a really high level, the comments on the higher levels get very narrow, especially with a narrower theme such as you are using. I wouldn’t go past 5.

The way I see it is the sort order should be by date, but there could be some things I don’t know about or have not considered as to why they would order by ID# instead. I don’t know for sure if they are doing that or not, but it certainly appears that way from what you have posted.

Moderation should really have nothing to do with it, or at least I can’t think of any reason it would.

Thank you for following up. Last question (I think)…

How can there be a reply — which seemingly breaks/bugs out the commenting system — if no reply button is being shown after the maximum level is reached?

In theory there cannot, but then again who knows with software? My suggestion was just something to try to see if it straightened out the commenting issue. It might not. After you give it a try and report back here, if it did not fix the issue we’ll tag this thread for staff attention and get them to look into it and figure out what is going on.

Sounds good. I’ve set it to the 5th level.

The bug still happens but not as frequently. Thank you.
