Comments Require Login?
-
I have the option to require login for comments turned off on my blog – but it is still requiring people to log in.
What’s up? How do I fix it?

Hi Kristen – if someone enters an email address associated with a WordPress.com account, they will be prompted to log in. If you don’t want that, you can deselect “Comment author must fill out name and e-mail” – if you do that, those fields will still appear in the comment form, but your readers won’t have to fill them out to comment.

Doesn’t it seem sort of crazy to require MORE security hurdles from someone on WordPress than for people who aren’t? Shouldn’t “No password required” be consistently applied to all commenters?? This is super confusing for people trying to comment…

Hi Kristen – This was a change we made some time ago. The idea was to try to help prevent impersonation of people with existing online identities at WordPress.com or Gravatar.com.
If any of your commenters have any trouble logging into their account, please encourage them to contact us and we’ll be happy to help! They can also fill out an alternate email that’s not associated with a WordPress.com account; then they won’t get the login prompt.
