comments vs. stats

I’ve been wondering why the number of comments on my posts does not correspond with the number of views I get. For example, I get around 500 spam comments a day. Views are MUCH lower.

Hi there,
For example, I get around 500 spam comments a day. Views are MUCH lower.
There are lots of ways to spam a site, and not all of them involve actually viewing it.
If you’re hosted here, though, we’re catching the spam for you, or should be — if not, could you send a link to the site?
-
Yes, these comments are being placed in the Spam folder, so all is good on that end.
I was just wondering how a comment can be left without the content being viewed.
-
Usually it’s one of two things:
1. The comment is left via the post in the WordPress.com Reader, not the site itself.
2. The commenter is running an ad/tracker blocker. If it’s a spammer or spam bot, this is usually the case.
-
But I’ve been told (a while back) that comments and likes via the Reader count towards site views. Is that inaccurate?
So if someone runs an ad blocker, their visits do not count towards site stats?
-
Interactions via the WordPress.com Reader cannot be recorded by stats on the site.
Ad/tracker blockers are intended to block trackers, unfortunately that does include our stats tracker (as it does for any stats tracker).
