Comments won't disable

  • Unknown's avatar

Comments are disabled according to the Settings – Discussion page, but pages and posts still show form for commenting. Do not want commenting on this blog at all. How to get rid of that altogether?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello there,

All WordPress blogs by default have comments open on all Pages and Posts. You can enable and disable comments on free hosted WordPress.com blogs on this page > Settings > Discussion

Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/

You can override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/

Note: By default, new blogs on WordPress.com will have the Discussion hidden. You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules

Thank you timethief! I appreciate your quick response!

When I tried to edit that in the main settings, I saw the 3rd check box from the top “Allow people to post comments on new articles” and unchecked it (I ended up unchecking everything on that page to see if I could get them to go away). Unfortunately, even when I’m logged out, the textarea field “Enter Comment” still shows up on every page. Then I tried going directly to the page to see if I could find a setting, and all I found was the “share buttons” and “copy” options. Nothing to prohibit commenting on the individual pages. Leave it to me to have some crazy unusual issue that will be a mystery for all eternity lol. ;)
    Thank you again timethief!

I guess if anyone is having this problem let me know if you can find away around it.

Not sure why the checkbox under Settings -> Discussion at the top that says “Allow people to post comments on new articles” doesn’t seem to affect my page setting for comments one way or the other (I want them off). I haven’t finished developing the site and posted no “posts” but did try a “preview post” and it too had the comment field, but I was logged in. I guess it’s just my luck that I don’t want people to comment on every page and the way to turn it on and off doesn’t work. Could it be a theme issue? Right now I have that box unchecked (along with most of the others on Settings -> Discussion) and you can see on the website (link at the top of this thread) that the comment form still appears on the main home page and the about page. At this point all I know to do is just make all comments go to queue and ignore them, which is not my ideal at all, but I guess it’s not a big issue right now with the site not complete.

To help, I uploaded an image to the website to show what my settings are: http://jmgvines.com/settings-discussion/

Ok, strangely, the page where I posted that image seems to have comments turned off, but not on the About and Home page….???

Well, it seems all I had to do was create a NEW home page and About page and it removed the comments. I assume that means that those two pages must have been created prior to my settings change and all pages after that change would be affected but not the ones created before the change. To fix, just create new pages, copy content, save, adjust order for the menus, then delete previous page.

    Whew! I was panicking! :)
