Comments won’t work. No matter what.

I have gone through all of the steps recommended in the support groups, but still readers can’t make comments on my posts. WordPress says comments are the life blood of community, yet try as I might, my comment form goes nowhere. Any help would be appreciated. http://www.outermostuncle.com

Have you tried changing your settings? Currently comments will only appear once you have vetted and approved them.

Remove your email address asap from your site … unless you want to be flooded by spammers en spambots

Some site owners have found that by unchecking “Enable blocks in comments” in their site’s Discussion settings solved this (ironically). Make sure to save all changes.

See if that doesn’t resolve it for you or come back and post if you need more help.

And I’m with @staartmees on removing your email address from the comment prompt to discourage spammers. If the above change in comment posting doesn’t help, you could add a contact page to your site and link to that instead. The advantage in that is contact form submissions go through Akismet, the spam blocker plugin.

I will try unchecked “enable blocks in comments”. Thanks. I’ll let you know if it works!

Thanks for the tips. I’ve disabled the “enable blocks in comments”, but it hasn’t seemed to have changed anything. When I comment, using a different account, I get a page that says “Sorry. this comment cannot be posted.” I see the recent test comment from wordpress magicbot. It’s in my que to approve. However, I’ve recently received email from folks who want to comment, but can’t. At least one of these people has commented in the past.

I’m still at a loss as to why most everyone can’t post a comment. Thanks for your time. -Marcy

Thanks for coming back and letting us know that turning off blocks in comments worked for you!

If you run into any further problem with comments (hopefully not), please post back here.

  • Unknown's avatar

Actually, no. Nothing has worked so far. I’m still at a loss as to why readers can’t post a comment.

I checked your website and could see the comment box and was able to place a comment without any issues.

If you are not seeing this on your end, then please try clearing the browser cache or check the website on a different browser or device and see if that helps.

Please let me know how it goes.

Sorry to hear that solution didn’t work for you.

It would make sense to follow up with your readers/commenters and ask them to post here in this same forum thread and advise if they are logged in to WordPress.com or not when trying to leave a comment, and what device, browser and OS they are using. https://www.whatsmybrowser.org/

Also, 3rd party cookies need to be enabled. https://wordpress.com/support/third-party-cookies/

If they are using an ad blocker, it might be worthwhile turning it off for WordPress.com and see if that doesn’t solve it.

“inurl:blog” “leave a comment” “powered by WordPress” -“nofollow”

Thanks everyone for the tips, but I’m still confused. I’m back at trying to figure it out – because I’ve had a few more emails saying folks can’t comment. I’ve found that I can’t comment when using my phone (signed in to another account). From my computer using Chrome, I had to specifically add my outermostuncle.com website to my allowed cookies, to be able to comment. Also, when I did this, my comment went straight up on the page, without moderation. I have the moderation box checked.

Do I need to tell every reader that they need to specifically add my website address to their allowed cookie list? Grrr.. sorry – frustrated. I asked the most recent person who couldn’t comment which browser she was using. Her answer, “My phone.”

As I gain more information, I’ll post it here. Meanwhile, I don’t have my site set so that commenters need to be logged in to WordPress. Everyone should be able to comment.

    thanks again -MM

    Hi there!
It seems like you’re experiencing an issue with comments on your blog. I’m here to help.

I checked your site and attempted to leave a comment on one of your posts. At first, I saw the same error message that you mentioned when I tried to comment using an invalid email address.

After that, I gave it a try myself on this one: https://outermostuncle.com/2025/04/20/21-the-island-that-watched-the-sky-cold-war-shadows-in-mayaguana/comment-page-1/
    I tried two methods:

    • While logged in to my WordPress.com account
    • Using just a valid email address (not logged in, no WordPress.com account)

Both comments went through successfully and are now awaiting your approval.
I recommend first, please try clearing your browser cache and cookies by following the instructions in these articles:
