Comments wrongly off by default
-
I’m finding that sometimes I create a new post and comments are turned off initially. I’m writing entirely through the app but I configured the site on the website. The discussion settings are to allow comments on all posts. It’s just that some (not) all post have them turned off. I can turn them on through the website but the setting isn’t available in the app. This is both for posts with the new block editing and older single page content.
Help! Thanks -
Hi –
When the post is opened up in the editing view you can check the box to enable comments there as well. This would be in addition to the discussion settings. But, using that should fix the problem that you’ve described.
If more help is needed please write back indicating which site you’re working on and a link to one of the affected posts. Thanks :)

Yes that works from the website but I don’t have a comments checkbox in post settings in the app.

Can you let us know which app you’re using? We’ll let you know where the settings are for that app’s posts.

Its version 14.2. The overall discussion setting is there. Just not for each post. As far as I can see at least. For each post I have settings for: Publish (date and status, password), categories and tags, image, and more (format, slug, excerpt, location). Nothing about comments.

Thanks! We did some digging and this is an issue that our developer team is already working towards fixing. There’s nothing that you’ve done wrong.
There is a work around to make it so the comments are enabled again. After publishing the post from the app, visit WordPress.com in your mobile browser. There, you’re going to see that option we were talking about earlier. When you open up the post in the editor from the mobile browser you can enable comments on the right hand side.
This should work. I know it’s a little cumbersome.

No worries. I work in software so I get that glitches happen. Looking forward to a fix in the app. Thanks for digging around for me.
