commercial followers

I know that only followers can remove themselves from my blog. I just want to comment that most of my followers are commercial concerns and clearly aren’t interested in my personal, individual postings. Too bad there’s not a way to control this annoying tendency. I enjoy my WordPress blog and appreciate the fact that I can have it free. Best regards. Oran Walker

There is no question that we Volunteers can answer in this thread.

WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read features page, or advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all.

The only way to get rid of all advertising on our free hosted WordPress.com blogs is to purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade.

If your blog is attracting only commercial followers then you might consider purchasing No-Ads upgrade for it as the keywords in your content trigger the kind of ads that are being displayed on it.

One thing you should check for is that those commercial followers, who obviously aren’t above a few spamming techniques, are not copy-pasting YOUR content into their blogs. It’s worth it to once a month Google the first line of each of your recent blog posts, to see if they show up on other blogs. If so, use the Report as Spam button to explain to staff which post of yours was stolen and turned into what post of theirs.

Interesting. Thank you. I guess my head is just not around this blog phenomenon, so I’m not thinking critically about it. I’ll give it a try! Cordially, Oran

You can also use copyscape http://copyscape.com/ to see if anyone has been ripping off your content. If there has been content theft then here’s what to do about it > http://en.support.wordpress.com/content-theft-what-to-do/ and here is what to do to try and prevent it http://en.support.wordpress.com/prevent-content-theft/
