Commercial Use

    Hi,

Images for commercial use are available in various places, however, do we have to provide evidence to WordPress for where it was sourced in case it is contested? For all WordPress knows it could have come from anywhere—especially if there is no requirement for attribution.

I plan on doing a blog section on ‘The Golden Owl Trail’ which is free for anyone to solve across the planet, so is it okay to take the photos from Wiki or a site dedicated to the trail?
I really don’t want to have to go searching for commercial authorized ones when they are on Wiki or elsewhere.
If somebody puts images out for the world to use, where does the law stand on using them? Surely there should be exemptions for things like this?
I could do it without the images, but it would look better with them.

    Can I link to them?

Wordpress.org has a plugin for Pixabay but WordPress.com doesn’t? Come on guys, can we try and keep up?

I would really appreciate a full detailed response.

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Wordpress.com has nothing to do with the pictures you use. You and only you are responsible for the pictures you use on your site.
A copyright infrigement can cost you a lot of money. So be very carefull with the pictures you use on your site.
wordpress.com offers you the possibilty to use Getty Images, https://en.support.wordpress.com/images/getty-images/

    Thanks.

This didn’t answer my question. I am aware of copyright and law.
Getty images does not contain the pictures for The Trail.

Hopefully, somebody will pick it up on here.

Hi there, As staartmees said, you and only you are responsible for the pictures you use on your site. Check out Intellectual Property Infringement in our User Guidelines https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-guidelines/ and you can also search the Terms of Service for the word “copyright” to note the relevant sections: https://wordpress.com/tos/

We aren’t in a position to tell you whether what you want to do is legal from their point of view. Have you tried contacting the people whose images you want to use on your site?

  • That’s correct — we aren’t in a position to offer legal guidance. Here’s how you can embed Getty images though:

Yes. I found a social media profile for them. Unfortunately, I am not on that platform.
It’s a bit ’round the houses’ though for me to make a profile just to make contact.

I have an idea to work on though.

    Thanks ladies x
