Community standards

    Hello,
I have a few hobbyist websites about (by some considered controversial) subjects like all lives matter/white lives matter/political correctness/mainstream media/diversity/religion/diversity/nationalism/traditionalismetc etc. The last few years they have become extremely popular and more profitable. I have been looking to migrate them to WordPress.
I have also been getting a lot of complaints about my content being racist, xenophobic not inclusive etc. Honestly i am very active on being objective and my current hoster is really strict about these things and we both agree that these complaints are just unfounded attempts of silencing other opinions.

Now the question. How does WordPress handle these things? Im not interested in getting my websites taken down every time a small group of noisy people decide something new is racist or inappropriate.
Does wordpress take down website that aren’t breaking tge law but are also not compliant with facebook-like community standards?
I have been going through the wordpress terms of service and user guidelines but they don’t really answer my questions.

Have you also read the User Guidelines mentioned in the ToS? https://wordpress.com/support/user-guidelines/

Because this is a ToS issue, I’ve flagged this thread for Staff attention and input.

I thought i had but apparently I haven’t read the user guidelines you linked, im not sure what i had read before but that wasn’t as straight forward as the user guideline you linked. Thank you, the UG is really clear and helpful. I am going to dig into wordpress a little more, i am a bit cautious since some big media like reddit bow for the thought police.

  • Hi there,

I can’t really go into more detail that what appears in the user guidelines – our terms of service team ultimately decides on these things on a case-by-case based, and we don’t discuss terms of service issues in our public forums.

I can tell you that we’re serious when we say we value freedom of speech, and when the ToS team decides to take down a site they don’t do so lightly. That team is experienced at this, and if they receive a complaint they will evaluate the actual content against our policies and values as a company, rather than simply taking action based on the reporter’s opinions about your content.

I’m closing this thread to further replies, but you’re welcome to start a new one should you need help with any technical aspect of using WordPress.com, like migrating your content to us:
