  Hi there
  I’m creating a community website for people to have public profiles, posts list of developers in the area, venues, job postings, and lists of events from a meetup.com group, all these to be submitted by users and require admin authorization to be posted

  What would be some recommended themes and specially plugins to get this to work with wordpress?

  Any help is appreciated

  Sorry but you are in the wrong forum.
  This forum is only for blogs/stes hosted by WordPress.com

  WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and different http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  And you should ask in the WordPress.org forum.
