Company Website Transfer

    Hi,

We are currently looking to transferring a company website/domain to a wordpress theme.

This website is however linked to 100+ employee email addresses.

I just wanted to see how do we go about creating a whole new website on WordPress layout in than transferring the domain over to wordpress? Without loosing current employee email addresses and content?

Is it possible to create the new website on wordpress and once it’s ready just direct the existing domain to the new wordpress website? Is it possible to keep email hosting as it is without touching anything?

    Thank You

    Mel

    Hello!

If I may ask, what sort of website are you currently running? What features does is have/require? Is it ‘public facing’ or a private in-house site? Is it possible to send the link to the site?

Is it possible to create the new website on wordpress and once it’s ready just direct the existing domain to the new wordpress website?

Yes, this is referred to as ‘mapping’.

Is it possible to keep email hosting as it is without touching anything?

Yes, this is done by modifying the DNS records on your WordPress.com site after you point the domain here.

Thank you so much, that’s so helpful.

    The website is http://www.civconwa.com.au

We won’t really need to keep any of the features. We are writing new content and changing the website completely. We just need to make sure the layout change to wordpress does not effect our email system.

    Thank you

    Hi,

It should be fine. For a company of your size and the number of staff, I would recommend the Business Plan as it offers the most flexibility and support.

    Here’s a guide regarding email: https://en.support.wordpress.com/add-email/

.. and another regarding plans: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Start with setting up your new WordPress.com site and get it just right.. when you’re ready to pull the switch, you’ll need to point your domain’s nameservers to WordPress.com and be sure to set up the MX records on your new site first to avoid any email interruptions. Someone here will be able to guide you at that time.

I hope that helps, and let me know if you have any other questions!
