Complaint about automatic charging

I have contacted you before as I think it is ridiculous that your systems are unable to see when a site is not being used at all. Unwittingly I have been charged for 3 years running for a site I used only once on a day training course.

Yes I should have spotted the charges but no I didn’t.

Please refund the $297.00 I have spent on nothing. I am sure you can afford it more than me . Thank you.

Oh no! You did not read the relevant support doc at this link Auto Renew https://en.support.wordpress.com/manage-purchases/#auto-renew

WordPress.com provides a 30-day refund on all upgrades except Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, and Guided Transfers. The refund period for Domain Registrations and Renewals is 48 hours.

Note: It takes from 1 – 2 weeks for the refund to be received.

You have to be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard, cancel any upgrades, claim a refund for any qualified upgrades, and disable auto-renew. Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades. You can also disable auto-renew there. http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#canceling-upgrades

  • Hi there,

Your inactivity isn’t a determining factor in us canceling upgrades under your account. We would not deactivate payment without your consent. We empower the owner to totally make that decision – we don’t know whether or not you want to continue to use the upgrades or why. Your auto-renew has been disabled, but since the charges were four, three, and two years ago, we won’t be able to refund those charges. Our refund policy for the premium upgrade is for 30 days. For more on our canceling policy, please visit our support page:

    Manage your purchases

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Yes my question is why don’t you ask whether someone wants to renew? You must be able to see there is no activity. We have busy lives but you have the technology to see what is happening. I have no interest in your refund policy – how could i possibly have had an interest in that when I didn’t know I was being charged?

I would like to make a formal complaint and repeat that if you are a reasonable organisation you will refund the money. What was the money used for? Zero use so zero value. I have not consumed $297.00 worth of value from WordPress. Do you understand what I am saying?

  • Hi there,

Yes my question is why don’t you ask whether someone wants to renew?

I understand your frustration. However, we do contact you multiple times before charging your account. Every year, you received an email 14, 7, and 2 days before renewal that your card was charged:

    Manage Your Purchases

If we hear from you in response to our e-mail that you want to cancel auto-renew, we surely help you cancel auto renew. However, if we do not, we take it that you want to continue with using the product.

Since it has been 4, 3, and 2 years since the charge, there is nothing we can do to refund you the charge.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks.
