Hi,
My boss has asked me to look into creating a client portal from our website. We have a com.au domain which I cannot transfer to WordPress so would need to link it to the current provider Square Space. Has anyone done this? I can’t seem to get much help directly from either side. Thank you
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
Have you tried updating the DNS records to connect your domain to WordPress.com yet? If not, follow the article below to connect your domain easily. If you’re having issues, feel free to comment below so I or someone else can help.
If you already own a domain name with another provider, you can use that domain with your WordPress.com site. In this guide, you will learn how to connect your existing domain name to WordPress.com. Hello, @adminecb951fc0f!
If I understand correctly, you’re looking to connect a domain you currently have on Squarespace to a WordPress.com site, right? Please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. In that case, you can connect the domain by following the steps outlined in this guide:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/I also want to mention that if you’d like to use your Squarespace domain as the primary address for your site instead of the free WordPress.com site address, a paid plan will be needed. The good news is that connecting a domain is included at no extra cost with any paid WordPress.com plan. You can explore our available plans here:

Amazing thank you for all the information. So would that mean I should be able to set up some sort of login icon on the Squarespace page that then goes to the WordPress site for the customer to login in and view their documentation? I am more than happy to pay for a plan I just want to make sure I can do what we need to before committing.
Again thank you for any information you can offer.

Hi,
To make sure we understand exactly what you need, could you clarify a few things?
- When you mention a client portal, do you want each client to have their own WordPress.com login, or is it a single password-protected page for all clients?
- Are you planning for clients to access documents directly on WordPress, or would it just redirect from Squarespace to WordPress?
- Could you share a bit more about the types of documentation or content clients will be viewing?
Once we know more about your requirements, we can help point you in the right direction.

Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me. So we would like each business to have their own login (could be used by multiple people within that business). I’m guessing they would be redirected from Squarespace to WordPress? This is the area that I’m unsure about so any advice would be great.
They would be viewing pdf view only reports that our inspectors create about their equipment.
Thank you
Lis

Hey Lis! 👋
Thanks for clarifying, that really helps us understand what you’re aiming for.
On WordPress.com, there are a couple of different ways you could set this up, depending on how private and customized you’d like the client access to be:
Password-protected pages
- You can publish reports as pages or posts and set each one to be password-protected. All you’d need to do is share the password with the relevant client.
You can set content like pages and posts to public, private, or password-protected. This guide will show you how to adjust the visibility of your content. In this guideVideo tutorialControl how a page or post is viewedDraftPendingPrivateScheduledPublishedPassword ProtectedRestrict content to members Have a question? - If you want each business to have its own login that can be used by multiple people, you’d need to be on the Business or Commerce plan. These plans allow you to install plugins that can create a more traditional “client portal” experience (for example, with individual logins and role-based access).
You can find some options here:
Since your use case involves PDF reports for different businesses, the simplest approach might be password-protected pages if you don’t need individual accounts.

Hope this helps. 🙂
