Completely deleted pages reappear published a month later
-
Two pages I had previously deleted have reappeared on my blog. I deleted them around the 18th of November and I noticed that they had reappeared today, although I’ve not had internet access for a few days so it could’ve been in the last few days.
They were gone from my Manage -> Pages section, something I definitely remember as I accidentally deleted one of them I thought I had a backup of and was quite annoyed at the time.
They were both child pages of a page I deleted at the same time, called Games.
The pages are called ‘Xbox Games'[ID: 453] and ‘My Halo 3′[ID: 417].
When they reappeared they had the wrong link on my blog: http://carocat.co.uk//xbox-games/ and http://carocat.co.uk//my-halo-3 presumably as the parent page didn’t ‘reappear’.
I’ve now hidden them, but I really want to know how they reappeared?

That is truly bizarre. It’s obvious that staff have been playing around with parent pages and so on, but deleted pages? Truly weird. I suggest you email them.
-
Yeah, I’ll definitely contact support once it opens which is still a long time off!
Just thought there might be a trend.
-
No, you can email them now. It’s not generally encouraged, but resurfacing deleted pages does need a look into stat, before it becomes a widespread problem.

Just heard back from support:
Hi,
It’s us.Some code was changed which had affected Parent pages and that brought the pages back from a backup.
It shouldn’t have happened though – sorry!–
Mark
All sorted and resolved. Thanks raincoaster and Mark.
Now back to blogging as my internet’s back. I’ve had withdrawel symptoms in the last week!

I’m glad to hear this was sorted for you. Over the past 2 days we have had bloggers posting to the forum with Page and sub-page and orphaned pages issues. Hopefully, they will all be cleared up today.

hi,
I was a bit startled to see 10 pages that have been deleted back up on my blog. When i deleted the pages i accidentally deleted an important page i wanted to keep. I still have the page (the one i want) in an XML file on my computer that was created by exporting.(i using it for a self hosted WP blog). I s there an easy way to restore a page from the XML doc? Can WP recover a single page from their backup?

I don’t know, but you could create a second blog on here, something like cafedogtest.wordpress.com, import the entire file in there, then go to the page, edit it and copy and paste it into a new page on your blog.

Thats a great idea…. as long as WP.com doesnt have a problem with me wasting a subdomain name.
thanks. -
As far as I know, they don’t mind at all. It’s also nice to have an extra blog to try new themes and such out on without disturbing your “real” blog. I have three blogs and two of those I use for testing and such.
