Completely original issue – tumblr import
-
Hi, guys, I’ve got a problem I bet you haven’t heard about in the last few days: I’m trying to import my tumblr, and so far, it has imported a whole heap of 0 posts out of 36465. I started this process yesterday. Does it work at all?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I’ve double checked to confirm your import is currently in the queue and will start soon. It didn’t cancel. But please do reconnect to your Tumblr account if you’ve disconnected it. And please be patient and keep your connection from Tumblr. Do not try to cancel your import.
We’re processing quite a few imports from Tumblr at the moment, which is causing a backlog of imports in our system. While it may look like your import failed, it’s just in line for processing, and luckily it’s still in the queue. Please allow this to run for the next 24 hours, and if it hasn’t completed by then, update us here.

It is connected, I didn’t disconnect it.
And yeah, my post was more ironic. Tumblr’s on fire, it is understandable that you’re slow now.

Cheers, nautiscarader :) And pardon our standard replies — just working through all of these requests.
Update us here if you need more help in 24 hours or so!

Hi there,
It appears the Tumblr import on your site has now failed, so I’ve reset the importer so you can try again.
If it seems to take long, please be patient and don’t try cancelling the process yourself – we’re still experiencing a high volume of imports from Tumblr at the moment causing a backlog of pending imports in our system. The imports are being run in the order they are submitted, but it could be a few days before your new import is processed.

Well, it’s a good thing I checked out. And, how come it can fail?! There’s a program on github that downloaded all of my tumblr in lickety-split, hasn’t complained once. Weird, I have now restarted it.

This is not a download. This is a transfer, via Tumblr’s API, that converts the content from the format Tumblr uses to a format that’s compatible with WordPress.com while the transfer is happening, while at the same time downloading every image you’ve ever uploaded to Tumblr and uploading it to your WordPress.com site’s media library. It is not a simple process, and we’re doing it for thousands of sites, some of which have tens of thousands of posts and images.
There are many reasons why an import can fail, and frankly I’m surprised we’re not seeing more failures given the sheer volume of content our servers have been importing the past week.

Hi there,
It appears the Tumblr import on your site has failed after transferring around 2500 posts, so I’ve reset the importer so you can try again.
If it seems to take long, please be patient and don’t try cancelling the process yourself – we’re still experiencing a high volume of imports from Tumblr at the moment and your site is very large, so it will take a while.
If some posts have already imported they will be skipped by the importer during your next attempt, so they should not be duplicated.

Are you effing kidding me? I got a mail saying I reached some idiotic limit.
THERE IS AN EFFING LIMIT?!
Listen, we’re trying to escape one site run by a bunch of incompetent morons. Don’t try to one-up them in the stupidity.
-
And, what kind of Bullshit is with the media upload page?! I want to remove some of the movies you have imported from tumblr, but when I want to filter it – filter, not upload it – I get the stupid “buy better subscription plan”. I ain’t gonna pay for something that’s free. How the fuck do I stop the import so I can remove some of the heavier files?????
-
Oh, and of course, if I reblogged the same vine compilation five times, you downloaded a file five times, instead of realising it’s the same one. Hashchecks are too difficult for ya?
-
And when I delete a video, the whole list of media scrolls up. When I try to multi-select more than one, it sometimes fails to delete all of them.

Hi nautiscarader,
I appreciate you are feeling frustrated but please be respectful as we are trying our best to run a large number of Tumblr imports as fast as we can :)
I got a mail saying I reached some idiotic limit.
There is no limit on the number of posts and pages that can be imported. However, the Free plan you are using includes 3GB of storage space — posts and pages do not use up this space, only media.
When you reached the 3GB limit, media stopped importing. As you mentioned, a paid plan will be needed if you wish to import anything over 3GB. If you run another import, any missing content and media will be imported (existing content won’t be duplicated).
How the fuck do I stop the import so I can remove some of the heavier files?????
I’ve reset the importer and larger images can be deleted from your Media Library. If you are trying to delete a large number of files from nautiscarader.wordpress.com, the bulk select option in the WP Admin interface may be useful:
https://nautiscarader.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php
I hope this helps.
