completing migrating from a self hosted WP site to WP.com
-
I am migrating http://www.atomicquilting.com to http://atomicquilting.worppress.com. I’ve transferred the content as recommended with export/import, and I set the theme to match, but the sites still don’t look the same. What do I need to do to fix this? Surely there is a tool I haven’t found that can just make it happen or a simple procedure? I’ve found nothing searching the wordpress.com “support” pages or google. What am I missing? Once it’s right, I’ll throw the switch on domain forwarding, but I need it to be right first. There’s another blog or two I plan to do this for as well, so I’d really prefer an automated solution. Thanks a lot!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I am curious about this. The theme @whitelotusquilting’s self hosted site has is not available here at WordPress.com
What is the best approach in this case?
Thanks

@rambogenius : It’s not dependent on the theme, you have to choose the new theme from the Array of themes available with WordPress.com , the content can be exported , also all the other features like the additional CSS , plugin features and other which is available in WordPress.org they cant be imported here, the content has to be used and rest all features of WordPress.com can be used , am sure you are aware of this WordPress.com vs WordPress.org
Also additionally this could be more helpful to set up on WordPress.com if you’re coming from WordPress.org
Coming from Self Hosted Website
Hope its useful :) ..! Cheers..! -

@pavanraheja
I have followed every step in that guide except the domain mapping, which I want to defer until the sites look alike. The directions are incomplete.
@rambogenius I’m not sure why you say the theme in wordpress.org is not available on wordpress.com. I was using the oxygen theme on wordpress.org, and found the same theme on wordpress.com. I set up the site long enough ago I don’t remember all the customizations, but I don’t think I did a lot.
It’s like converting a document from Word to Pages but not being able to copy the formatting. I can’t believe this is the state of the art, I must be missing something obvious.

@whitelotusquilting : Ok so I looked into your websites both the links
https://atomicquilting.wordpress.com/ and
http://www.atomicquilting.com/So from looking at both of them , some differences I could immediately notice is the set up of the theme , which I could figure out, so here is are some details to help you with it
https://wordpress.com/theme/oxygen/
The above page will give you details the theme and how it can be set up in WordPress.com
Managing your featured content, your side Widget area, your set up using the Themes—>Customize from your dashboard will give you details further.
From what I notice the widgets, the featured content, images have to be set up, in the Theme page above link you will know about it.
Probably you can start configuring from there, and there after let us know how it goes, and where you get stuck and any specific feature you are looking for, we can then help you with it.Looking forward to hear from you soon.
