Complicated blog transfer and redirect

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’m trying to redirect workwearman.com to http://www.performanceworkclothing.co.uk/blog/

The new blog is hosted by our e-commerce shop providers (EKMpowershop)and has limited functionality – it is wordpress.org but there’s no way to import. There’s also no option to instal plugins either.

I’m prepared to copy the individual posts to the new blog but I want to be sure I don”t lose the traffic coming through to workwearman.com

I’ve looked at the site redirect upgrade and not sure if it will solve my problem. I’ve spent ages trying to figure this out – any help would be much appreciated

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • workwearman.com is just mapped here, not registered. According to the whois data, it appears to be registered at easyspace.com.

I would encourage you to contact the easyspace.com support team. They should be able to help you redirect easyspace.com to your new webhost.

    Hi Rootjosh

Thanks so much for getting back to me. I contacted easyspace support. Here’s the response…

Thank you for contacting Support Services.

Unfortunately, your DNS and site is hosted by WordPress and therefore we are unable to effect any forwarding for you.
I am also unfamiliar with the WordPress software and am therefore unable to assist you with any specific options for this.

So I’m back here – what do you think?

  • I think someone there doesn’t know what they are talking about. Take a look at the WHOIS data:

    http://who.is/whois/workwearman.com

    Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.easyspace.com

    Registrar URL: http://www.easyspace.com

    Hi again Rootjosh

So, back again. here’s the response

I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble getting this to work as you desire.

As stated by the member of staff at WordPress, Easyspace is indeed the registrar for the domain, however, the nameservers for the domain have been set to the following: –
    ns1.wordpress.com.
    ns2.wordpress.com.
    ns3.wordpress.com.

As such, you have delegated WordPress to handle the DNS information for the domain and this is where any forwarding would need to be set up.

If you wish, we can have the nameservers changed to ours and we could set up the forwarding from here, but this may cause you to lose traffic as the changes required could take up to 48 hours to take effect.

That seems to me like a weird way to do things. I it possible to redirect from the wordpress nameservers? Sorry for all the questions. I really appreciate your help here

  • I do not understand why they are giving you such a runaround, but this is the typical way to do such a thing:

If you wish, we can have the nameservers changed to ours and we could set up the forwarding from here, but this may cause you to lose traffic as the changes required could take up to 48 hours to take effect.

It is possible to redirect it from here. But it requires the purchase of the Site Redirect upgrade:

    Site Redirect

Personally, I would do it as described above.
