Compressing photos

When I used Windows XP, their Photo Editor had an option to resize photos for blogs/websites. I would resize them to 50-75 kb. Now I’m using Windows 7, and there is no option. Photos tend to be 150 or so kb. I post 3-5 photos a day. Is there any appreciable effect on the loading speed of my blog, or the space I’m using? If so, is there some way I can resize my photos? THANKS!

There are hundreds of programs that will resize photos, just Google for one. 150k isn’t a problem at all for most computers on most connections, but for people in third world countries it may be an issue over time, especially if your theme displays the entirety of each post on the front page and/or uses infinite scroll. You can use the More tag to truncate posts if you’re worried about it.

Gimp is a no cost photo editing program that runs on Windows – works great – as powerful as Photo Shop.

I think Windows Live Writer also compresses photos when they are uploaded if I remember correctly.
