Concerns over changing blog address and site redirect

    Hi,

I am planning on moving to wordpress.org and understand I have to upgrade and purchase a domain. I originally thought my blog address was trulyteachmetarot.wordpress.com but when it was set up it was missing the truly part. My site is rather large and I have now decided I may charge a subscription to gain access to it or at least restrict access. I also want to do private online tuition. teachmetarot.com is already gone and I wanted a .com address. There are also several other teachmetarot sites with .net or .org etc but I want mine to stand out. trulyteachmetarot.com is available and is the name of my course.

I need reassurance that if I change my blog address and pay for the upgrade to trulyteachmetarot.com, and then purchase site redirect from your store, that all my internal links will work, I have a lot, will my followers be automatically directed to my new address. I only started writing my blog (site really) over a year ago and have close to half a million views, and over a hundred followers. I am terrified of losing them or just disappearing. I have over 250 pages so far on my site and still building. I need to know that all my pages will be covered in a site re-direct.

Also, should I do all this while still on wordpress.com or wait until I transfer to .org? Also, I need to know if I should be looking at mapping instead or aswell? Just to let you know, I am not great with all the techy lingo.

Am very confused at this stage.

In my opinion you should buy the .com address now – once posted in a forum someone else might get the idea and beat you to it. It does not have to be through WordPress, you might want to use your .org hosting company.

You then set up your .org site on the “.com” address, exporting from wordpress.com and importing onto the new site. You can then redirect the .wordpress.com site to it with the redirect upgrade.

You have to ask staff members to transfer subscribers to you, and for that you need the JetPack plugin.

There are options for the way URLs are formed on .org sites, and for links to work you have to pick the option that is compatible with .com

    Thank you so much tandava108,

I got straight onto it and have purchased as you suggested. I have found the forums and support wonderful. I now have a WordPress woman in Dublin who is going to do all the other bits and pieces for me, exporting and importing etc. She will add all the plugins and then I can arrange to re-direct. She will do a few hours training with me. At first everything is very confusing and then it all begins to make sense. I am learning a lot from this experience. Thank you again for your prompt response.
