Configure dns settings for mapping domain

  • Unknown's avatar

    HI all,

I have a domain, adrianmann.ie, registered with Register 365 that I would like to map to my existing wordpress blog adrianmannblog.wordpress.com.

When following the first answer here and further steps here, I login into my Register 365 control panel and update my nameservers to: NS1.WORDPRESS.COM, NS2.WORDPRESS.COM and NS3.WORDPRESS.COM.

Moments later, I will receive an error notification email with the following:

There were problems redelegating adrianmann.ie to the following
    nameservers:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

The error message received from the registry/registrar was:

Parameter value policy error. While checking Nameserver hostname for
    nameserver: NS1.WORDPRESS.COM for domain: adrianmann.ie NS1.WORDPRESS.COM is
not authoritative for zone adrianmann.ie. While checking Nameserver hostname
for nameserver: NS2.WORDPRESS.COM for domain: adrianmann.ie
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM is not authoritative for zone adrianmann.ie. While
checking Nameserver hostname for nameserver: NS3.WORDPRESS.COM for domain:
adrianmann.ie NS3.WORDPRESS.COM is not authoritative for zone adrianmann.ie.

You may re-attempt this procedure with different nameservers by logging
    into your account at http://admin.register365.com

After contacting Register 365, they have told me:

Thank you for getting in touch with us about Nameservers.

The Nameserver change request will fail because the Irish Domain Registry will reject the nameserver change, if WordPress.com have not yet configured a “dns zone” for your domain name on there systems.

I have run a check against there systems and this is indeed the case.

You would need to contact Wodpress and explain to them that they need to configure the dns settings for your domain name firstly, and then you can push the nameserver change through.

Alternatively, if WordPress can provide you with the ip address, or CNAME records, you can use Reg365 nameservers and point the website to there server this way. We can assist you with this if you can provide the correct records.

However, I can’t see anyway of directly contact WordPress to perform this change for me nor can I see any options in my WordPress admin area to change this.

Does anyone know how or who I have to contact or does anyone know a solution that I can perform myself so that I can map my existing domain name to WordPress.

I feel like I am going around in circles because I am told to update my name servers by WordPress and my domain registrar is telling me to contact WordPress to do something else.

    ANY help is appreciated.

    Hi there,

I added a DNS zone record for adrianmann.ie, so you can update your domain’s name servers to those three name servers. Then, you can continue the steps in the guide to Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping) to finish mapping that domain to your WordPress.com blog.

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)

@rachelmcr That’s fantastic, delighted to read your email. Thanks a million.

However, is this the usual process for contacting WordPress for a request like this or is their another contact process I should of followed.

    Thanks again, you’re a star!

    Hi again @rachelmcr,

When I navigate to adrianmann.ie, I get an error saying:

    adrianmann.wordpress.com doesn’t exist
Do you want to register adrianmann.wordpress.com?

Was adrianmann.ie mapped to adrianmann.wordpress.com instead of adrianmannblog.wordpress.com or is something else going on?

    Thanks again.

It’s mapped to adrianmannblog.wordpress.com. I’m not seeing any errors at http://adrianmann.ie — are you all set now?

    Okay thanks.

I had to map the domain to adrianmann.ie and it is working now but I didn’t think that this was necessary.
