configuring dashboard

I am going crazy trying to configure the dashboard. I have reduced all the boxes to gray bars for simplicity (I have also tried it with them open). Sometimes, when I move a bar, it gets a dotted line around it which moves to a possible location position. Sometimes not. for example, starting with Stats, Right now and Your stuff in the right column, I can move Stats and Your Stuff to the centre column. But I am not allowed to move Right now to the centre column.

The reason I am trying to get them all in one column, and in the right order, (stats, the Right Now, then Your Stuff) is that I am trying to get the stats box to spread across two columns. There was a WordPress Announcement claiming that this is possible. But it will not work for me. I want a wider stats box because the two columns of information under the graph in Stats are so narrow that the blog titles spread over several lines, and the box is then pushed down, with half the information off the bottom of the screen.

I’ve also noticed a glitch when the left-hand column is narrowed to just icons, and the Stats box is at the top of the centre column: mousing over an icon in the left column produces a pop-out menu for that item, but it appears behind the stats box instead of on top of it. The pop-out menus need to be set to for “always on top”

Do you have a wordpress.com blog? Your username is linked to an external website so it’s hard to tell.

    Yes, it is http://senmcglinn.wordpress.com/
I presume that everyone on wordpress has the same problem

You should certainly be able to move all the boxes to one column. I just checked on my dashboard and I had no difficulty with this, including moving the Right Now box.

But you’re right about the glitsch with the Stats box. Hopefully someone from staff will come along and see this.

While I am grouching about the glitches in the new dashboard: I am no longer able to move links from one category to another. I can tick on a second category and that appears to ‘take’ when I update, but when I go back to the same link to ‘untick’ the first category, it is again showing only under the first, incorrect, category. I’ve also tried ticking the second, and unticking the first category, and then updating. That doesn’t work either.

It gets worse: when I delete the old link and add a new one in the correct category, it doesn’t appear in that category, but in the old (wrong) one. This is like trying to work in Word: the software thinks it is smarter than I am and keeps “helping” me. AAAArgh!

I solved the problem of changing the category of a link. Go to the edit page and scroll down to the categories list. To the left of the categories list is an option “all categories”. If it is underlined, choose that first, then change the category as you want, go back up and click update. The Glitch is only there when you do not have “all categories” set correctly.
While you are at the “edit links” page notice that it has a wide column (centre) and a narrow column. That is just how I would like the dashboard to appear.
